I need to remove the emblems from the glove box door on a 65 GS. Has anyone else removed these? Looks like barrel clips maybe. Was going to try sliding a putty knife underneath and pry off but dont want to brake them as the emblems are in good shape but the door needs paint.

John. Is your GS emblem on your glove box door loose? I looked at a 65 GS today, thinking of buying it, and the GS emblem on the glove box door was loose, and wasn't on very straight. Kind of makes me wonder if someone cloned it? It looks like the emblems were almost like pop rivoted on the door?
I don't know how to remove them. Hopefully someone will know and then how and with what to reinstall them.

Just slide a putty knife under the emblems and GENTLY pry up. there are 2 studs on the back of the emblem and they go into 2 metal clips in the door itself. I have done this many times over the last 35 years.

    Hope this helps. :beer

Thanks. Barrel clips just as suspected. I didnt think even G.M. would use nuts on the back side then put the two piece door together.
As for the loose crooked emblems being a sign of a clone the ones in this pic. are slightly loose and you can see the GS badge is crooked. We checked the history on this car and it is a legit GS. The scratches on the door and loose emblems make me suspicious that hi heels may have been involved in this case!!!
