I am a bit confused about my '65 GS Differential Gears/Cases.
Although from what I can tell the Buick Parts Manual states that the 3.08-3.23 Ratios use the same case, I am trying to use a Posi Unit from a '65 GS with a 3.08 Gear set in my '65 GS with a 3.23 non Posi housing.
I am absolutely positive that both ratios are correct but when I assembled it the Ring was not even close to the Pinion Gear!
I then set both Cases on end & to my surprise looking from the end that both Ring Gears bolt, the 3.23 open case is not the same distance to the Flange where the Ring Gear bolts.
This is causing the Ring to be spaced to far away from Pinion for a proper backlash.
It looks as if I need a Ring Gear Spacer, which I could understand if I was going from a 2 series case to a 3 series case, but I am not doing that.
Has anyone seen this before or know where I can get a spacer?
As I understand it they should both be a 8.2 Ring Gear.
    Thanks,
    Doug

You mean they use the same carrier. The carrier breaks for the rear should be 2.56-2.78 / 2.93-3.23 / 3.36- 4.33 and up.

A spacer seems to be your only option. I would PM Monzaz to check.

Spacer in a BOP will need to be in a 1/8" increment...Not a spacer out there that does not need machining to work properly.
you can use a 2 series posi / non posi carrier with a Chevy 8.2 spacer to get the correct offset to use 3.36-4.56 4 series carrier gears.

to use a 2 series carrier with a 3 series gear you will need to machine a Chevy spacer in 1/2 to work correctly.

If you are using a aftermarket posi carrier or an open non posi carrier a 10 bolt 8.5 spacer can be used in a pinch..you will need to shim the carrier over further than it should BT should still work for you. Jim

TIP - reason you can not use a factory posi unit with this 8.5 spacer is you will move the carrier too far to the left or right and the axle will not engage all the side gear parts to make the unit work correctly...IN FACT you will destroy the unit with a few hundred miles. :( Same with too short of axle shaft installed in a wider housing...this happened a lot years ago. JD,
Can I use a 3:23 Ring & Pinion on the 3:08 Posi Carrier? If so, do you know where can I find those Gears?
    Thanks,
    Doug

2.93 3.08 3.23 all fit the same carrier in the 10 bolt 8.2 1964-1967 Buick Pontiac and olds rears.

No I do not know where you can find those gears. They will only be in used or OEM original gears from way back in the day.

I just wanted to update this post to say I found the correct Spacer for the 8.2 Buick Ring Gear at Randys Ring & Pinion!
There Part Number is MRG900A & it comes with the Ring Gear Bolts.
I have installed it without any issues & it works perfectly!!
    Thanks,
