Anyone converted their setup to FI, or, in the process of upgrading the motor, gotten creative with their fuel tank setup?

I'm not ready to drop ~$1000 into a Rick's tank just yet and I was looking at all of the options before I'm forced to.

I've seen some of the Chevelle guys using the 90's Caprice or Roadmaster tanks with some modification, but wanted to see if any of the Buick guys have done a similar installation.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Eric

You might want to do a search in the High Tech for Old Iron section. There is lots of activities and ways to do this.

An less expensive option for fuel tanks would be the the Spectra Premium - Classic Inj. Fuel Tank offers the in-tank pump, fully equipped with baffles ready to install:

I'm currently converting to the Powerjection III system and am going to modify the stock tank with a sump. It already comes with three vents from the factory (72 Riv). Once I get it up and running I'll be posting my review of the whole system and install.

I don't know what your talking about.

I have a caprice tank in my 'lark. It requires the trunk floor to be clearanced about 2-3" and new straps to be made (straps are easy) (caprice straps maybe able to be used.

The spectra tank wasn't available at that time. I think I would buy the spectra one now however.

With the caprice tank you use the caprice factory filler neck, just shorten the 2" flex line. If the flex line is bad (dry rotted) (mine was) napa sells the 2" dia flex line and the 3/4" vent line. For the vent line I made a few coils of fuel line with the end tucked up high above the shock mount.

EDIT: ok for $338 at rockauto I don't think I would buy the spectra tank. The caprice one is nice. if your ok with the bulged up trunk floor. a heavy ballpeen hammer and about 1 hr of swinging on your back does the trick.

The good news is I'll be replacing the trunk anyway. Now I have an excuse to go custom with my trunk pan....:TU:

Any pics of your setup? What year Caprice tank did you use?

Actually, compared to the stainless one from Rick's, I might be able to actually afford one of the Spectra's.

I wonder what kind of fuel pump options you have with that tank?

I've been running external pumps from a stock tank. It would be better to go with a real tank for EFI, but it *can* be done with a stock tank.

i believe it was a 93 tank. I'll need to get pictures. any idea of what specifically you want to see?

I'm also using the stock fuel pump sender but swapped the pump out for one of these 255 l/hr units

    Mine's a '77 with a '72 455 in it so I hope it counts.

I run a TBI pump at the stock tank to a surge can/pipe then a ford high pressure pump to the fuel rails from the surge can/pipe, then the regulator return to the surge can/pipe and a return to the tank from the surge can/pipe. Made a slight modification to the stock tank pickup/sender for the return line.

I shortened the pipe to a 4" pipe instead of the 6" pipe pictured. Some thread sealer on tapered threads and it works great.

The Surge can/pipe mounted. I'm going to move it back by the tank now, this location in the front fender was to see how it would work out. The ford pump is right below it.
