64-66 A Body Steering Column Rebuit?

i am in the process of rebuilding my non-tilt column for my 65 Skylark.i ordered the HD lower bearing and bearing tension spring from The Parts Place. there was no lower spring when disassembled and I do not see it in the parts breakdown in the shop manual. does anyone know where this spring is supposed to go?

This is a good picture of how it works, and speaking from my experience it is supposed to be there

 

That's kinda what I thought.Is that factory?just curious.

My 66 is as pure and untouched as the driven snow and it didn't come with one

 

I'm thinking it has to do with the new white plastic bearing retainer it's better material but it is shorter the original.
