'61 Water Pump-Long & Short?

The build on my 401 continues. A previous thread answered the question of whether a '61 pump is different than '62 and newer (yes). My question is this: was both a long and short waterpump available in 1961? My engine came with a long shaft pump and I need a short. Obviously I don't want to search for something that never was! If a short pump was not offered in '61, could one use a newer timing cover to use a short pump???

I'd welcome any opinions or first hand experience:)

Use a '62 up cover with the corresponding pump. These are all short. Then you have a choice of a 3 or 5 blade impeller.

    Tom,
Thanks for the input!! I knew there was a reason I hadn't sent my timing cover out for polishing yet. Guess I'll start the hunt for a '62 and newer timing cover.

Won't that throw off the belt location on the pulleys?
