Hey guys, I'm trying to gather info for an upcoming 1961 Electra convertible project. I've been looking into disc brake conversions. I've looked into Scarebird and Wilwood. Any other kits i should know about? I know Performance On Line has a pretty comprehensive kit for the Riviera. From what i can tell the 63-65 Riv's use the same brake components as my 61. Can anybody confirm or deny that? I'm going to put a modern master cylinder on it, but will that bolt to my existing power booster or do i need to upgrade that as well? The one that is there functions fine so i'd rather not replace parts i don't have to. Has anybody else done a similar conversion that worked well for them? My car is stone stock right now. Sorry for the wall of questions. I'm trying to find out all the info before i fire up the credit card.... THANKS!
If you do this conversion would you want to sell the complete aluminum drum set up from the front? Backing plates and drums. I have an old hot rod I am building that would look wicked with early Buick drums. Thanks Brent
I installed a dual master cylinder and scarebird disc brake conversion on my '64 electra and it all fit nice and works well. I kept all the pieces I took off in case I ever want to put it back. There is no cutting or irreversible mods.
So after a bunch of research i think i'm going with the Performance On Line kit for a 63 Riviera. From the info I've been able to find all the front end parts of fullsize Buicks are the same from 61-65. This is the kit I think I'm going with... https://www.performanceonline.com/1963-65-Buick-Riviera-Front-Disc-Brake-Conversion-Kit/ . I priced it all out and it's actually cheaper than the Scarebird brackets and buying all the parts on Rockauto. I'll probably get the master cylinder/prop valve combo from them too, it's $150. I would be interested in selling the backing plates and drums. Fair warning though, it won't be until April/early May. Send me a message and we can talk about it more!
