Big Daddy Garlits did a lot of stuff, and so did Smokey, but I am confident THIS nailhead absolutely did not make 600 HP. Was good for a chuckle though. This was in Garlits' museum along with a bunch of neat stuff including a Smokey built V6, a reconstructed hot-air engine Fiero, and Smokey's dyno.
Yeah, what gets me is that Garlits has to know that. Hell, one of the stroked and injected engines in Ivo's twin-Buick just a few yards away probably didn't make that much HP. It was a pretty neat place to visit though. Seeing the Twin-Buick in person was worth the price of admittance. I pondered whether it would be worth getting kicked-out if I were to break all of the rules and sit in that beautiful machine. One can't appreciate what those guys were doing without looking right at one of those old dragsters.
This has been posted before, and among others, I commented that although Smokey was a genius, no way did that engine come anywhere near 600 hp.
