6 way power seat not working. Restoration advice?

My six way power seat hasn't worked properly in years. I'm the only one who drives it, so it isn't a big deal, but I would like to be able to use it if needed.

It will only move forward, or tilt backward. It will not move backward or do the tilt function that is closer to the dash on the switch. I think it raises the back of the seat higher.
I hear a click, so I think the switch is ok, but the motors don't turn.
Any ideas or links to articles where people have fixed these? I see OPG doesn't have any parts for these and ebay assemblies can be $300. Maybe I just need to replace a couple electric motors? Any thoughts or tips?

I bought completely refurbished units for bucket seats in my 67 GS cars. Not cheap but they work great.

Where did you get them? I don’t think that’s what I want to do, but maybe as a last resort

I may go look in a junk yard. I think my problem is 2 out of 3 solenoids have gone bad. Maybe I can piece together a working unit or find the solenoids I need. I just don’t want it all apart for months while I figure it out.

I had an upholstery shop repair mine...they took it apart and cleaned it and got it working perfectly again.

I found them for sale on Ebay and bought them from the restorer of the mechanisms.

A little over a year ago I found a gent that repairs GM seat motors, seat transmissions, A/C, etc. I sent him the motor and transmission for the 1969 SS 396 Chevelle seat in the car I restored for my daughter’s 40th birthday. Anyway, he did a great job and returned them promptly. I am sending him both motors from my 1973 Riviera now. You can find him at
    cadillactim.com.

Thanks for the link. I took the motor out and it worked fine. I cleaned the switch the best I could and it still didn’t work. I think next I’ll try getting a better ground to see if that helps. Then I’ll try jumping power direct to certai circuits to bypass the switch. If it’s not that maybe something is binding in the transmissions.

Try rocking it while clicking the switch. Sometimes it has bottomed out on the track and will be stuck. Rocking it will sometimes free it up..
