Hi I have a problem with 455 from buick riviera from 1972, I have swapped it to 79 chevy caprice. Is there something which must be attached to transmission? When it was out of car, shaft was turning in "D" or "R" position. In the car when I turn "d" or "R" nothing happen. Oil level is correct.
If you gave it a good bump while it was out the linkage inside the trans could have come loose or out of adjustment. I had one that had the parking pawl stuck in and was binding everything up. Another that would only go N and R no matter where it was shifted. If you drop the trans pan you may be able to see the problem.
Thanks. Here are pics dropped pan: https://picasaweb.google.com/109246679241790783837/455 Do you see something wrong? I think that the shaft spun before I put the engine because it had no load.
Did you connect the shifter linkage correctly. IIRC the caprice would have a 700r4. What trans are you using?
The pictures look like a 400 to me. I can see the downshift solenoid and filter tube. https://plus.google.com/photos/109246679241790783837/albums/6088330369544704561?banner=pwa
Wondering if the filter was in place or did OP take it off for pics. When the linkage arm is rotated he should be able to see movement of the valves in the body. In my case the selector moved and "clicked" like it was all good but was not interfacing with the valve body correctly.
I think maybe he is from outside the U.S.A. He isn't giving us much to go on. He needs to answer the questions already posed so we can move forward. I like to start with the simple stuff first, so oil level/fill method and vacuum hook ups can cause problems. Then linkage problems second. He was online when I posted, but didn't respond. This might be one of those threads that never gets resolved, but so far, that's on him.
I assume there is a filter, which you removed to take the pictures. Not as clean as I'd prefer. With the pan off, it ought to be possible to verify the selector moves the trans to each gear. After filling, it will be necessary to check and add more alter idling in all gears. With oil and the engine idling, you should be able to monitor pressure at the test port (per the factory manual). If all looks good, the trans is going to come out; was it working before? I had a torque converter fail this year, that would pressure but not turn the input shaft. Behind the MAZDA looks like my solar panels. Bruce Roe
Sorry I do not have much time to reply. Trans is from 1972 riviera I think it is th400 I filled by pipe ASM No because I thought that it is necessary only to shift gears 1-2 and 2-3. Is it necessary to drive? I take filter off to take pics. Selector clicks and I think that valve is moving correctly, but I can do more pics.
I've connected the vacuum and nothing happend... Any ideas? I've checked that there is no oil in pipes which are connected to radiator.
