Are regular 455 fuel pumps the same as a stage 1 fuel pump? I can access Airtex, AC Delco.... If anyone has the Stage 1 pump part number would be much appreciated. Thanks
AC Delco 40664 is the Stage1 pump, easily identifiable by it's deeper fuel bowl. https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-40664-Original-Equipment-Mechanical/dp/B000C9PGH6
Larry, ordered the ac delco pump. We’ll see if it’s the big bowl unit. It’s at my local Lordco in North Vancouver. Thanks
If you run a double roller timing chain. You should elongate the bolt holes to space it away from the chain. I ruined one not knowing this.
The original A/C Delco had a wear pad on the end of the arm--secured by 2 rivits--to where the arm contacts the cam. Does yours have that? They may have eliminated it to save $. Best, Ranger Aiken, SC
Hugger - I was planning on an electric pusher with 3/8 fuel lines - that’s one option. Or may even go another route and run a fuel surge cell I know the stock mechanical pump be it stage 1 or not will not support the future build. Ran into this issue on my 395 rear wheel hp w30.
Also - look at the restriction in the bend on the fuel inlet on this pump. I think I’m going to return it. Anyone know if Airtex does a better job on this 90 degree 3/8 inlet?
They all are crimped like that,..with the engine build your contemplating I'd do 1/2in feed,.with a 3/8 return with a 160gph pump if you go carb,..3/8 will be fine with FI,..but you'll need a baffled and or submerged pump or you will fight fuel slosh that's always been my experience anyway
Or you could just bite the bullet and go with the CV products pump that I use in conjunction with a Robb Mc 1/2” pickup and push lok line. JW puts a Buick arm on them. The pump is a Nascar style pump originally for a SBC, good to 850 HP, fully rebuildable. I believe this is the one, http://www.lyonsperformance.com/billet-fuel-pump-idle-p-1355.html http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/electric-pump-recommendations.230667/#post-1873180
My wife (and I) are SO glad my fuel pump quit while the engine was warming up yesterday morning, instead of halfway to church!!! Also, it was nice to see this fairly recent thread on them. In addition to the AC Delco part number 40664, I found the following numbers for cross-referencing. Spectra Premium SP1263MP Airtex 40664 GM 440804, 6440664, 6470098 Of course you'll want to get a solid confirmation that it's the Stage 1 pump, as some vendors' computers show the stock pump under those numbers (looking at you, Advance and NAPA) I'll also add that NAPA, O'Reilly, Advance, and Pep Boys all show the Stage 1 pump as "Not Available", while AutoZone (which is the worst parts place of all here locally) can get it (the Spectra brand) within 2-3 days for $40, compared to 1-3 weeks and $50-90 from Summit, Ebay, or any other place I found it.
I just wanted to add here that the Autozone one is also not the real stage 1 fuel pump. They have the picture of the stage 1 on the website with the deep bowl and in the “notes” it says high volume stage 1… but they send you a stock one. The part number for the spectra stage 1 is SP1263MP but the part number listed on the autozone website is B1263MP and that’s what they send you….a stock one.
Curious, has anyone tried this one? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/rdr-4030010/make/buick By the picture it looks correct with the location and configuration of lines.
