I still have the 4.1L springs in the 83 Regal Wagon and I wanted to know which springs in the front will give me the right height with the 455 I am getting ready to drop in? I need a 1" drop on the springs too. I know you guys have done this before so I am hoping someone chimes in with the front springs that I am going to need.

    Thanks,
    Jon

    Hey, Jon.

On my 1st Regal455, the Regal originally came with a V6 ... V6 springs ... and 24-hours after the Buick 455 was in, the front of the Regal was basically dragging the ground.

On my 2nd and present Buick 455 Regal, both the Buicks came with the factory Oldsmobile 307 V8 ... and the ride height/front end stayed basically the same as with the Olds-307.:TU:

If you can, I suggest getting V8 springs.

    Hope this helps.:TU:

yea mine is a v6 car that i ended up using the 307 springs in. i never actually had the motor in with the v6 springs. it sat fine with the v6 springs when i had a sbc in the car but that 455 is a little bit heavier unless you have aluminum heads and such that lighten it up. and just so you know when you first put the v8 springs in its going to sit high for a while until it settles down some. you could always put the v8 springs and drop spindles if you want the front end down some i would imagine.

Ditto on the 307 springs. With iron heads, aluminum intake, headers, mine sits the same as factory.

Thanks guys, I have done a lot of reading here lately from your advice. I have a standard block with alluminum intake manifolds etc. It looks like the V6 4.1L weighed in at about 400lbs and a 455 stock is 600. Take off the heavy intake and I call it 150lbs heavier than stock. The V6 springs had a front end weight of 2124lbs. The 307 Springs you guys are mentioning have a weigt of 2290 a differnece of 166lbs. It looks to be just about right as you have said. I may have to cut them slightly though as my car currently has a 1" drop on it.

    Thanks,
    Jon

I'm running the F41 Turbo V6 springs in mine. Had about a 1 inch drop with a 454 in it. Appears to be near stock with the 455, iron intake & exhaust.

Anyone got a decent set of black, driver quality, bumpers in the WI area?

81 Regal 455 with original V6 springs did appear to lowered in the front but don't have any before and after measurements. I think it all depends on what you're trying to achieve. Stiffer springs prolly hurt quarter times but I like corner carvers!!! Anyhoo...when I get off my arse, gonna try some IROCs. May need to cut it to achieve the desired ride height. Fyi...SBCs are 575 lbs. and take a gander at this to add to all of the confusion... http://jeffd.50megs.com/Moog_Spring_Page.htm

Price out the moroso mid weight springs. You can cut 2 coils if need be. But then again those are drag springs, which work great on the street if you have adjustable shocks.....
