Had to replace the timing cover gasket on the wagon . Checked the oil pump &
don't remember how to align the 2 dots on the oil pump gears , opposed or does it make
    a difference ???

    Hi Bill,

I think the dots should be dot to dot. I looked in the '71 manual and it makes no mention of the dots. There is a clear picture of them measuring for end clearance but no dots in view.

What are the oil pump dots for? Lubrication?

Whatever markings are on the gears, I don't think they mean anything.
