recent upgrade to the 470 from ported iron heads etc to TA st1 TE ported 351 int / 229 ex @ .600. SP2 intake. TA 210s/hl cam.
Current exhaust set up 1 7/8” MT long tube headers to 3.5” collectors onto dual 3” flowmasters.
My question is the headers. Would / should 2” or 2 1/8” headers be better suited and worth some free hp. I have read going to big can hurt performance. Thoughts?

2in will be fine, 2.125 are a nightmare to install anyway

Excellent. I thought 2.125 might be interesting to get in place considering how tight the 1.87 are already.

I'd rather have the M/T sound than worry about a couple horses or ft lbs.
You probably wouldn't notice any way.
    IMHO

in a full race only there might be some gains, but to just drop 700ish on headers when you have some already not sure it's worth it, I did go the the 2 1/8 when my 1 7/8 rotted out. I didnt find them too bad to install, other than bolt access. but my motor is moved back some. my 2 1/8 stage 2 headers have much better bolt access, but the drivers side needed some decent cleaning around the control arm area. and i have to remove the steering shaft each time in or out as well as both valve covers

I read it wrong I thought you had went stage 2's,...I agree the 1 7/8 will work fine, especially considering the extra work involved in getting 2in up in place

Appreciate the feedback. I know it’s not “free” hp haha wish it was, if it would make somewhat noticeable difference I would go that route but if it’s minor and may prove disappointing after all is said & done then yes the M/Ts are staying.
