Hello fellow x-body guys. I have a 1976 nova that I have a Buick 455 in it. Right now it has stock manifolds. I would like to put headers in it and I was wondering if any one has headers in their x-body car. If you do have headers then what brand and part number are they. I am not sure whAt to get and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i believe that poston headers will fit, but i know that TA headers very well. part # TA2012 ch (raw finish) or #TA2013 ch (chrome finish). now, my car dosen't have a heater box or A/C, but i think they will fit with the heater box (but probably not with A/C). The TA super comp headers (part # TA2012 SCH) will work without heater box and a little "love".

I will be taking the heater box off in the spring before the season starts. So that will be one more thing that won't interfere hopefully. Thanx for the reply, any info is greatly appreciated from anyone also.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a basic 455 build up with stock heads (home port and polish maybe). I am going to put a 3.73 gearset in the rear and a 2500 stall and was wondering what cam would be a good choice for a bit more kick. If you need any more info then post here. OK. thanks

Garth, i would save time and money home porting and polishing heads, you could probably find a good used set of aluminums on the web somewhere if you are on a budget. nothing you ever do will be more worth while. as far as cam choice i would go to the 455 street section of the forum and talk to those guys. but be very specific with your goals and budget.

Dan is right, if you do a seach for camshafts advice or information in the street-strip 400-430-455 forum, you will find lots of good info. I would also go to the T/A Performance website and download their catalog. They have quite a few pages devoted to cams, specs, including info on idle quality, expected horsepower gains, and the RPM ranges the cams work best in. If you are sticking with basically stock Iron heads, then anything over .500 lift in a street cam is probably a waste of time, simply because the heads will not flow well enough to use more lift.
Compression ratio, intake type (dual plane or single plane), and carb size all have an effect on horsepower limits. You already mentioned using headers. What level of horsepower are you looking to achieve?
Buicks are really sensitive to head flow, and the better the heads, the more power you will make. Dan runs a set of aluminum stage 2 heads, which puts him way ahead when it comes to making horsepower. With a good 2500 stall converter you could probably run a T/A C113 cam and make some good horsepower.
    Hope this helps, Randy

I just recently put in some T/A shorty headers with absolutely no modifications to anything except the exhaust pipes (has A/C). I was going to post several pictures of it but apparently I need ten posts first.
