I have read that the stock 307 v8 mounts will work on a 455 olds..... will they work with a 455 Buick?

Then there are the T/A performance mounts..... saw those, but maybe its cheaper to get the 307's from a junk yard?

Also read there are "Poston" mounts.... not sure what those are......who sells them?

Just looking for some clarification if possible. I have read lots of threads but no one goes into detail on the options.

I was making my own a while back. I still have them on the block I was using for the mock up. I don't think the olds mounts will work on the Buick but never tried it. Poston used to sell Buick parts but are out of business. I sure would like to have a decent 455 to through in my 86 Regall right now. I'm putting Flowtech headers on the 307 right now and they don't fit worth a dam! If you need to see the ones I have spot welded together let me know and I will post the pics.

I have done it several times, the last two cars I built, I used the big car (Electra, 225, etc) frame stands, bolted an empty 455 block to the transmission in the stock location, with trans mount and crossmember in place. Used a level across the front of the block or carb mounting surface. Marked the frame and drilled holes to match. The GS cast aluminum mounts are really short and really hug the frame and:
    A. I didn't have any
    B. They were sorta'pricey and I would have to order and wait on them
    C. Had the mounts out of the big body car so they were free....
    D. I would have to do the same labor with the GS mounts

It worked in two Regals and one X-body/Nova car.

would these be the proper TA mounts?

also I've seen online that the 68-72 buick gs mounts are the lowest profile and thus provides the most clearance..... There are a few sets on ebay.

Throw up some pics I'd love to see them!

Back when I put a 455 in my '68 LeSabre, I reused the old 350 mounts and they fit (not perfect, but the bolt goes through and holds it down.

The mounts on those were welded though, I had to cut and reweld them.

If you don't care about it being 'proper' they'd work, and the v6 that comes in the G body uses the same motor mounts and frame pads as the 350.

i used 71 big car mounts in mine and they worked fine. just welded them in. if you have the front suspension torn apart you can just drill new holes and bolt them in.

No other mount that I know of, will work as a direct bolt-in for a Buick 455.

The holes in the G body Frame, engine cross member cradle are for the Oldsmobile 307 engine, the Chevy Small Block Engine ( or the Chevy V6), and the Buick 3.8 V6,.

Remove any existing frame stands that are in the car, by putting a swivel head socket on a long extension, the opening of the lower control arms , and locking it onto one of the frame stands nuts , back the bolts out from the top. repeat 4 times for each side.

I used the Buick 455 motor mounts and frame stands from T/A Performance for the 68-72 Buick A-Body Skylark's/ GS's.

There are 4 mounting motor mount holes on the Buick 455 block , on both sides, from the front of block , use the holes 2 and 4.
Bolt your motor mounts to those holes, then attach the frame stands to the mounts.

As a assembly , ( frame stands, Motor Mounts and Engine) mount to the trans you are going to use and lower into the engine bay.

As a helpful guide for locating and centering the engine's position, is get an aftermarket Dual Hump Trans cross member , like the ones from Crossmembers.com, or just use the existing "B.O.P." (Buick , Olds, Pontiac) trans and trans cross member that was in the car and use them as a temporary guide .

This helps locate the transmissions mount location, wich locates where the engine combo will sit on the engine cross member, it also serves to keep the engine crank's center line very close if not dead-on the original location of the original engine trans combo, and keeps the engine low as possible , and far back enough for the oil pan to clear the engine cradle.

Go and adjust and center and level the engine , you will notice the frame stands resting on the engine cradle with at least 3 holes of the frame stand firmly on the cradle, one hole wont rest on it.

Once your happy with the engines location ,take a spray can of a light color paint and spray onto the frame stands and engine cradle, make at least to hit those holes.

Once done spraying, pull your whole assembly out ( eng, trans, stands, & mounts) and you are left with a "NEGITIVE FootPrint " of sorts where your frame stands will sit and the holes that will need to be drilled out, or if you want , weld them into that location.

Again if bolting in, just reverse how it was taken out at the beginning of my reply here.

    Hope this helps

EXACTLY how I did my Buick 455 Regals, Chris.

Also, the TH200-O/D transmission crossmember easily accepts the TH400 transmission mount; that's what I used on all my Buick 455 Regals. That's what I am currently using now.
