On one of the threads the person said that upon doing some research he decided against using a block girdle but he did not elaborate on his decision. So I was just wondering is there a reason not to put one on? Other than if it's just a low compression run about engine. From the way he said it I got the impression that it had it's faults. ?????

Only downside seems to be cost and potential for a bad installation. If you have a great running engine under 600 hp then I would leave well enough alone.

What are your HP and tq goals? There are many on here that have great luck with the 455 even with no girdle. For the average 500-600 hp 455 I think that bearing clearances and propper assembly are more important to let the engine live than just the girdle its self.

The 76 Blocks are supposed to be thicker and stronger, but sonic test to be sure you have a good engine. Jim W posted some great info on this, find that.

There is no set HP where the girdle is 100% required but it is cheep insurance vs an exploded engine and a potential crash. If you get over about 800 hp you will need all the tricks to keep it together from what I have read on here.

Thanks for the reply. I was just curious. It was just the way he said it that made me wonder. I haven't decided yet on how I am going to build the 455 but i don't see it going 600hp. 500hp would be nice.

You are welcome, just make sure the clearances are good on the engine and make sure you run an oil pressure gauge.

    Terry,

    I made 606hp and 591 tq and I do not have a girdle, I shift at 61-6200...

Makes all the difference on who/how your engine is built.

Scott Roys, are you using factory main caps or aftermarket billet ?
