The Wix 51258 is the correct filter, it basically fits ALL the Buick V8s from 67-76 and more. It is like a AC Delco PF-24.

I like the longer 51049; more filtering area. The drawback is no anti-drain back valve, but do we really need one? I know it decreases lifter noise for a second upon startup.

Absolutely need the anti drain back valve on the 67-81 Buick V8, the filter sits sideways, and drain back is a problem. The Nailhead oil filter position is vertical, so oil stays in it.

I'm going to put the acdelco on my 430 that came up on the computer at the parts store. Should I really get a wix, does the delco have the drain back system

Thanks Larry, I'll run the delco and get a wix later since you recommend it.

I have a stash of these Wix filters which I plan to keep well-stocked for the future.

I have used the Hastings LF222 also. Nice filter, and about the same price as the Wix.

Thanks, as always, Larry. But other than a little possible lifter noise at startup, what is the purpose of the minimal amount of retained in the filter due to the drain valve. I can't imagine the engine would suffer any additional wear? There is plenty of oil on all the surfaces to last them a millisecond until oil reaches them without the drain-back valve.

Not questioning you; just curious. I agree that a filter w/ the valve, due to the angle position of the filter, is preferred.

Since the mains and rods oil off the lifter galleys, I want oil pressure ASAP.:)
