Whenever you get to it Ron. I think this is the first roller cam'd Nailhead that we've actually seen dyno numbers for, hence my curiosity. Plus your killer results peaked my interest as well. Your engine builder did a fantastic job to get those kind of numbers with what seems like a fairly mild. Your numbers are definitely higher than most of, if not all of the past Nailhead dyno results that have been posted on the board, so you've got an awesome power plant on your hands. Congrats! :TU:

By the way, I'm jealous of your wife!

Wow Ron, that's a healthy build! Congrats on a job well done!:TU:
There haven't been many Nailhead dyno numbers posted. Here's a great thread on Eriks build with several dyno tests:
Peak was 365 hp and 468 torque.

Tom T built a race engine for Bob Q's '66 GS. 450 hp @ 5800 puts the car into the high 10's at 125 mph.

My blue car has run 13.41@ 102 mph. This hp calculator puts it at 335hp for the 3850 race weight:

Joe has run in the 12's with his '65. Joe what was your mph and race weight? Curious how it compares.

and Ron, I'd like to see the cam specs too.... and pics of that '55!:TU:

125MPH Race weight with driver about 3400pds. Works out closer to 550-560HP. Even though the engine wasn't dyno'd I feel the peak HP to be around 6200. This is with a flat atppet cam & around 13.2 compression.

    Great job Ron!

I thought the largest intake valve to fit the nailhead combustion chamber to be 1.94"?

How did you get a 2.02" intake valve to fit? Where there a lot of chamber modications?

    What about valve shrouding?

I have engine pictures on my facebook page, but I can't figure out how to post them on this forum.
Spent most of the day at the local U Pull It yard and forgot to get the cam card data.
Try to swing by the office tomorrow afternoon and post the information.

The builder was disappointed that it didn't make at least 450 hp but I didnt care because it has the worlds flatest 500 lb/ ft torque curve. It was 511lb/ft of torque at 2700 rpm. I asked the engine builder to make a low pull to see where the torque curve started and this was the lowest rpm pull.
I personally thought AMS Racing Inc did a great job. My main focus was a completely street able engine that i can put the EZ EFI on for my 55 Special. My wife will be driving this car, so it needs to be very user friendly.
The roller valve train was for reliabilty and intermittent use.

    Thanks guys

Thanks for posting the cam card! I'm impressed it made as much horse power and torque as it did - that cam is pretty mild!

I'm addicted to horsepower, so I was wondering if I went with the next bigger roller cam would it make a little more horsepower up in the rpm range a kill a little torque off the lower end?
The engine is still on the engine stand!!!!!!!!
I don't think it'll have any problems lighting the hides with a few less lbs of torque, just wondering if this combo is going to fall on it's face on the big end.

the nailheads dont make power up high, yes with lots of head work big cam and 2x4 carbs. why rev the engine higher then need to.your shift point should be about 5200-5400 rpms. your sweet spot looks like 2500rpms to 5000rpms whats wrong with that for the street. just to be nik picking i would have went more spread on the exhaust duration like 230 maybe 218-220 on the intake. again just nik picking. yours is a great combo have fun with it. if you change cams i will buy your old one. lol

we now have 2 more great nailhead motors, yours favors bottom end a little, and pemracing likes the top end a little more. 2 great combos take your pick, there putting the nailhead on the map this is great.
