    Hey everyone,

So its come time to remove and freshen up my 401 and DynaFlow in my 1961 Electra Sedan. I have pretty much everything ready from the top side but underneath is another thing. I cant really disconnect the torque tube so I am wondering if I can still pull the engine and trans out together without disconnecting and pulling the rear end out?

I am assuming if I pull both the engine and trans together it will just slip out of the yoke and upon install I can just slip it back in... What do you all think?

Uh, as far as I know, the 61 model year had an open driveshaft, the torque tube was discontinued when the 1960 model run ended. So it should be a simple matter of slipping it out of the yoke as the transmission leaves, or better yet, disconnecting and removing the driveshaft so you don't stress u-joints by leaving things hanging. The only thing I don't know about the 61-64 driveshafts was whether they had a steady-bearing and CV joints in them like the 65-68 models did. If that's the case, removal might get interesting, but it should be possible.

Thank you! That is what I was thinking but I am not familiar with the early stuff. My knowledge is pretty much 1964.

Correct, '61 was a regular 2 piece driveshaft. Pull the driveshaft from the diff, remove the 2 bolts holding the center slip joint in the x-portion, and pull the whole unit out.
