Anybody get one? I have (had) money in hand to order one but it seems the thread started on these is now closed. Does anybody have one or even seen one? Or does this project now sleep with the fishes?
Marty has closed up shop. He is selling anything he has left, mostly on e-bay. He has had many health issues to deal with & can't handle both. It's sad. On a good note, Edelbrock is looking to produce a 1x4 aluminum intake. Word says it should be out later this year.
I called Ray in tech. support at edelbrock in late jan. He was really nice over the phone and told me that the 1x4 was something they are going to do but it was on the back burner till late in the year. Mabey if some more poeple call and talk to him a stress how good of a idea the intake is mabey it comes sooner:grin:
Me 3..... Looks like my Doc dual planes may live a little while longer..... I was pecking around on the team buick site and there was some talk over there about the ebrock manifold... about a dozen guys told the ebrock rep that we wanted them.....
I dont have his number. I just called edelbrock and asked for Ray in tech support and they transfered me, next thing I new he answerd the phone. I told him I had seen his post on team buick and we started talking. ray:
I've got a quick question for anyone. What's the big deal about aluminum intakes? If you're talking about weight savings, there's probably enough extra weight in the cars we drive that could be shed to accommodate the difference in weight; Or, if you're like me, you could afford to lose that extra 20 lbs. around your middle. Unless the manufacturer does a ton of R&R on getting better flow from his casting, isn't getting your stock manifold ported professionally going to give you better performance than an aluminum manifold that's cast just like a stocker? If he does do the R&R to make an aluminum manifold that will flow like one of Greg Gessler's will you be able to afford it? Or did I miss class that day when the professor said "Aluminum manifolds make more horsepower just because they're aluminum." Ed
Whats the big deal with 4 speeds? 455s? Nailheads? Or even Buicks? I guess the short answer is because I (we) want one.
Marty did do some flow testing with the new intake - that's one of the reasons it was delayed. His first run of single plane intake's was not up to par, and thus was scrapped in favor of a dual plane design. These flow better than stock, and weigh a good amount less. What's not to want?
After reading EDs post. I started wondering. So I started looking at edelbrock rpm performer intakes in other brands. They seem to work. If they just made a couple of improvments to a stock one it would be a hit. I know that a chevy, ford, olds,BBB sbb,409, amc, pontiac, flat head ford,' I am sure there are more" guys that want to make his or her car go a little faster would buy a aluminuim intake first thing.I want one, But I am not worried about stock right now. Thats why I want to put a 2004r behind my nail. Just trying to improve on it a little. Stock is good but some of us want to catch up with technology and :3gears: :TU:
Or did I miss class that day when the professor said "Aluminum manifolds make more horsepower just because they're aluminum." Ed[/quote] Hopefully a new manifold would enable use of alternate carbs- either Q-jet or holley... (I know Doc - Holley 3 bbl!)
