1940 business mans coupe. The car was last on the road in 1960. Someone started a hot rod project with it at that time. It has an Olds V8, transmission and rear axle installed. NOT a good job!!! It appears they gave up before completing the job I don't think they ever got a drive shaft made. Most likely a good thing as no innocent bystanders got hurt. My brother picked this car up over 20 years ago with the intent of chopping the top and putting a turbo V6 in the car. Life got in the way and it got shoved in the barn. Other projects have prevented him from working on it and he has decided to sell. He is not a computer user so I offered to post it here for him. I have more pictures I can send to interested people and will try to answer basic questions here. Then I will put you in contact with my brother. We would like to see the car stay in the Buick community to be completed Buick engine and not become one more crate engine car. $3,000 As it sits with the Olds motor and trsans. $2,000 for the car without the engine and trans.
Floors are ok. Rocker panels are bad but all straight stuff eazy to fab. repair panels Interior is BAD. Seat frames are all there as are door panels, headliner is torn and chewed but bows are in place so you have something to work with once you evict the mice.
Thanks for the pictures, it sure looks like a great start for someone but I don't think I have the resources at this time. Good luck!
Great news!! and as you can see someone is gona need em. Also to be clear the car has a clear Ohio title issued when my brother got the car.
Hi John, Thanks for the pictures. The engine appears to be a Rocket 371 or 394 with a 4 speed hydromatic. I'd love to do an old Buick some day, but now is not the time. Your car has huge potential, I just don't have the shop space this winter. I'm out! JP
JP Thanks for looking and for the info on the Olds motor. I agree that the up side on this car is huge. Not a project for the meek of heart but a really neat and rare car. If I had the space and money none of you would have the opportunity to buy this car.It would get moved straight from my brothers garage to mine. I did some measuring once and this having been a straight 8 car the engine bay is extra long. How about a V 12 made from two V6 Buicks crank to crank!! Sounds like something Tommy Ivo would drive.
Hmmm...i'm interested. Looks like a good home for my freshly rebuild 401 (present project). Never bought a car out of the US so far. I think i will have to check out the possibilities and costs for transportation and shipping. Are you interested in selling the car to germany? Will not be the easy deal but you own what i'm searching for since i want an older buick beside my 65 Wildcat. I'm not afraid about the metal work. Done something like that the last 20 years. I'll contact my friends with import experience to see if its possible for me.
A nail head would be great in this car! Look forward to hearing what you're contacts have to say about shipping. PM me with an e mail address and I will send higher quality pictures.
Hey John, did you get my PM yesterday. Just to make sure i'm serious about the deal. Looking forward to see more pictures of the car.
I jumped off of the deal! Sadly it is to expensive to bring the project over to europe. But I had a really really cool contact to John over the last half of a year. He is a super nice guy and will help with all the informations you need. Don't hesitate to contact him if youre interested! I would love to build that car but it is a bit to far gone to justify the costs for shipping it to germany.
Had Special Business Coupe in '60s...lots of "old school" fun with 425, Schiefer flywheel/clutch, 2 AFBs, and "export" cam kit. Biggest problem was trans...torque ate every '38 Roadmaster floorshift box I could find on east coast. Unfortunately, interest shifted to motorcycles and girls before finishing switchover to open driveline...sigh...still miss that car. Good luck with sale!
We have shoved the car back in the barn for the winter. Working on building a new stake truck for the farm. Will most likely advertise again in the spring. Jan found another car already in Europe. It was interesting to learn a little about the logistics of selling a car overseas and always fun to talk to another car guy regardless of how far away he is. Sure understand about bikes wives and projects making the old car get parked or sold. My wagon has not moved under it's own power in years. I have been thinking about selling all my old cars and spare parts. Not getting any younger and I would have to live to be about 123 to complete everything laying around.
