Did Buick offer a 4 spoke sport steering wheel for the 69-72 A-bodies? I guess I've never seen one, but there's one on ebay that I saw last night, advertised as such. I'm wondering if it isn't aftermarket? If I can find it again this morning, I'll post a pic.
Here it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2404532427&category=33704 described as GS GN OLDS 442 and says it came off a 69 GS. must be Olds.
That is an Olds wheel...no GS/GN ever had such a wheel from the factory, unless it was a production screw up. Seller is wrong.
steering wheel These were available on Skyhawks in the late 70s early 80s too.I have one from a 71 OLDS on my 70. It is a thick padded one.Sorta like the padded GSX wheel but 4 spoke. The seller is wrong. But,I bet he gets 100 bucks or better. SHAME! PAT :TU:
Olds 4 spoke is my personal favorite:grin: Although I wouldn't mind a Buick 3 spoke...no flames please!
I have a 4 spoke on the 68 lesabre, I like the 4 spoke over the 3 spoke . Put a buick horn button on it , Good to go !:Brow: :Brow:
steering wheel The steering wheel posted in the picture at the top of the thread mounted on the Buick is a CHEVROLET steering whee. Depending on the grain it was used on many cars including the following: 71-72 Chevelle SS cars Chevettes 76 Corvette only 73-81 Camaros Nove etc. This wheel was usually an upgrade wheel (installed with an option package as on the 71-72 Chevelle SS) but became a standard type wheel used on many of the Chevrolets the Chevette of all things. Horn button ornament in center of horn button changed depending on the car. These wheels came in numerous colors to match interior colors. The early wheels are VERY bad about the plasticizer leaching out of the plastic in the wheel and they become VERY sticky. A NICE (mint) early 70's wheel with the correct grain in mint condition will bring $150+ with the SS horn button. You can also buy this wheel for $25 many times as they came from a late 70's early 80's Chevette. Most people would not know the difference however a purist will notice the grain difference and slight diameter difference (thickness) of the rim, the therefore the price difference. The Olds wheel shown in the above picture also have issues with the plasticizer and become VERY sticky. I see these wheels around with hub and horn button for $75-$100. A perfect will bring $200. I personally think the olds wheel is much nicer. Both beat the stock Buick plastic wheel all to hell. Make sure you get the turn signal cancelling cam and be aware that you will need the horn contact that is unique for these steering wheel hubs. Your stock spring contact usually will not work.
I bet if someone had installed one of those deluxe 4-spoke Olds wheels on a GS it would look something like this...... p.s. I think it is nicer than the GSX deluxe wheel
Yeah I definitely like the Olds spoke wheel better than the 3 spoke. The regular 3 spoke is too skinny...and the olds wheel makes that up. That's what I have on my LeSabre and it's going to be hard to live w/o it when I sell it. Maybe I'll throw the old one back on and put the olds wheel on the Centurion:Brow:
Re: steering wheel Mike what do you think is the going price is on a very nice, 15",complete,black 3 spoke buick wheel? Hub part #3937896
that chevy wheel is pretty tacky looking. i would chuck it ! i would rather have a cal custom three spoke than that thing. they look pretty close to a buick three spoke. but i bet you could find a buick or vette wheel... for about $150! that is kinda sad. ''
cost of 3 spoke There is a repo available out now complete with horn button, hub and 3 spoke black wheel for Chevy's/Corvette. Sure looks the same as the 3 spoke Buick sport wheel on my GS. The repo new is about $190 bucks complete I believe. I recently bought a 3 spoke black wheel for $50 with nice grain at the top. Most of the wheels you find have worn to severely worn grain. Again, condition makes the price. I had a horn button and a hub. Put it on one of my 69 Camaro's I drive all the time. Correct? No, but better than the busted plastic wheel. The Olds 4 spoke wheel is by far the "neatest wheel". Use the same hub for Chevy and Buick. The horn button is different for each. Horn contact and spring are the same. One was at the last swap meet complete for $75.00.
