4/5 speed swap??

Hey everyone, I've been contemplating a 4 or 5 speed swap in my 87 regal with a 72 model 455, and I have a few questions.

But first I think my plan for the car might be helpful,

Right now the 455 is stock, however, when it does get built, it will be mild, I'll probably bore it .030, raise the compression a bit (around 9 or 9.5) mild cam, aluminum intake, and probably a jet stage 1 quadrajet.

The goal of the car is for a pro-touring style car, that is capable in the corners or auto-cross track, can drive down the highway all day long, or drive around town without problems. Basically, a do it all daily driver, with an extra emphasis on handling.

    So my questions are....

1st, I'm really leaning towards a 5 speed, however, are there any 5 speeds that will be able to stand up to powershifting behind the 455?

2nd, When I do the swap, will I have to have custom linkage made? since the regal never came in a manual option, and since the car and motor didn't come together?

    3rd, in case I can't afford the 5 speed, which 4 speeds will handle a 455?

I might have more questions to add later,

    Thanks for any info,
    Marshall

I can help you with your 2nd and 3rd questions...

You can find Gbody manual setups on Ebay from time to time. I think they came from Elco's but I might be mistaken -- I usually see them listed for Gbodies.

I would definitely go with a muncie rockcrusher if your going with a 4spd.

Yeah that sounds about right. Im not too knowledgeable on manual's but seems like thats a pretty complete kit minus the stuff you listed.
