To tell the truth, I'm not sure. I can't remember, and I just had it off yesterday!

Those aluminum rockers are known to wear. Maybe replace both assemblies with new.

They should be open like this. But not worn / grooved like this one....

I was wondering how much play between the rocker and the shaft ? I can move most of mine probably close to a 1/32 " left and right of center line ( wiggling it, technical term, lol ). Looked in service manual but I didn't see any specs. I was thinking of just replacing the rod and rockers. If it helps great, if not and I have to rebuild, I would replace them with new, so no money lost .

Look stop screwing around an potentially loosing the motor fully!!
Pull the plug wires off one at a time and if the noise stops then you with out fail have a Bearing going south !

Is your rockers the ones with the pressed in tips? If so they could be worn. New set from TA Performance not to bad.

Yes they have the pressed in tips. Talked to TA today and ordered a new set of steel rockers and shafts now or on the rebuild.

This is when #7 went on my old SBB. It might be a waste of money, but what about a good tuneup? I've heard engines with some bad plugs make the noise yours does. Some really bad, others near microscopically cracked. It's not hard to build an engine, but since your crank and rods may be on their way out, that will add more complexity to it, and not many people can turn a crank in their garage. At that point, but as well go balls to the wall and have the bottom end balanced, raise the compression, work the heads, etc.

MrSony, I watched ur video, mine is seems like more of a tick compared to yours but maybe mine just isn't as bad yet. I put fresh plugs, points, condenser and wires on a few months ago. I'm going to try the new rockers and shafts when they get here. If it still makes a noise then I'll pull it and start down the rebuild road. I'm going to try to find a shop near me with some buick experience sense the last time I rebuilt an motor was back in 87, and it was for an airplane, lol, not quite the same .

I got the new rockers and shafts today , assembled them and installed and that took care of the noise, a lot of noise actually , The new ones are way quieter the old aluminum rockers. Thanks for all the tips and pointers.
