Ok, so I have a tick/knock that has gotten loader over the last week or so. It's coming from the right side of engine. It's a stock 350 with a aftermarket cam ( unknown make, installed by p.o. ). Thought it was a lifter or something along that line. I took the valve cover off marked the push rods, started it and all the push rods rotate, pushed on the rocker arms ( both ends), no change in the noise. I took off the rocker assemblies, both ends of the rockers look good, pulled each push rod and checked the ends, they looked good, none are bent. Reinstalled everything. Started engine again, the noise was still present, oil coming out of all push rods. When I pulled the plug wire off of #2 cylinder the noise went away, I repeated this ( hoping it wasn't happening ), and got the same results. So, am I correct thinking this most likely means # 2 rod bearing ??? Gonna pull the oil filter and cut it open tomorrow. Any suggestions ??

I'm sure others will chime in that know more than I do, but sure sounds like a rod bearing. May be able to just replace that bearing in a pinch/temporary fix.

Run it for few seconds with the valve covers off and see if the noise is coming from the top end or from down below.

Pull the oil pan, its pretty easy on the 350, check #2 rod bearing, see whats up.

It's a rod Bearing unless the noise is a double tap which means a wrist pin issue.
It's pretty easy at idle speeds of less then 800 rpm to hear if it's a single or bouble tap taking place.

The sound sounds like it is coming from down inside the engine . It sounds like a single knock, at idle in drive ( 750 rpm ) it's really pronounced, at idle in park ( 1000 rpm) it quiets down. Can you pull the oil pan while it's still in the car ?

Is it rhythmical? How is your oil pressure?

Yrs it's rythmical, about a tick every second. Hot oil pressure at idle (750 rpm) 28psi, driving ( 2000 rpm) 38psi. When rpm goes above 1000, you can't hear the noise unless ur listening for it. Doesn't matter if I'm parked or driving.

. Yeah, sucks, but it's part of the deal with a car this age. Was planning on doing the engine at some point, just was hoping it was further down the road, like the winter when it's parked.

I'll try to post a video of it. Not real good audio. Won't let me, must be to large.

If you have a rod bearing going away, I'd cut the oil filter open and have a look. If it is a bearing, and you are hearing noise, there will be metal in there.

I posted 2 videos on YouTube , not sure how to post a link to them, but you can search mville4 and they should be there, ones called buick 350 noise, and the other is buick 350 rocker arms.

That does not sound so bad to me. If you had a damaged bearing, there would be silver and gold flakes in the oil filter.

BTW, that plug wire is broken, you pulled the wire right off the spark plug connector. You need to fix that.

Take those aluminum rockers and shafts off and check them over real well.
They were crap back in 70 and they still are, unless you bronze bush them.
My Buick dealer had a silent recall on those back in 76, and replaced mine for free.
    Borrow one of these.....

Are those rocker shafts open on the ends or closed/capped?
