I'm rebuilding a 350 small block Buick engine and it has a hole on each side of the cam shaft. I'm wondering if these holes should be plugged or open. Thanks

Like these? That's normal. No need to do anything

If you mean the holes in the cam, they do nothing as alec said, no need to plug them. If you mean the holes in the cam bearing journal, those are oiling holes. TA Performance sells grooved cam bearings to help with oiling. They're grooved on the backside and provide better flow. If you mean the holes on either side of the front cam journal on the face of the block, those are oil galley holes left over from the casting process. There needs to be two little cup plugs hammered into the holes and staked (use a punch to smack the lip of the plug making two or three dimples to prevent the plug from coming out under most circumstances). These plugs NEED to be in there or you won't have oil pressure at all. Not even a single psi.

Thanks for your replies, that is right, they do need to be plugged. My dad figured out that they are supposed to both be plugged after looking at another engine we have! Thanks

Which holes were you actually referring to? Never quite said.
