thnx larry , had to try it . the cover and gears looked better . zero oil pressure now . so just guessing . clearances are not tight enough . the gasket/shim from the other mtr. seemed to be quite a bit thicker . but the one came appart so had to use it . guess ill try new gears and the plate , if I can find one . not listed at t/a , that I saw

thnx larry . got thru to t/a . their having ph problems . much higher prices !!does anyone else have the shims , or is it only ta . ph. out again. guess the real lesson is to change your oil . my 67 is over due . now that I see how it works , once a yr, ,no matter if I only drive 100 mi.. its got factory air already . converted to 134 . wish I had done my homework . probably should have left it r 12 .

I don't think so. TA has a set of different thicknesses.

Nope, that's a TA exclusive and a must have part.

Maybe TA can ship them in an envelope to keep shipping $ way down. Or you could cut your own out of a proper thickness sheet of mylar, would be a pita though, for the $20 they sell the whole shebang for......

well , been busy ,but got the plate ,new gears in . no change . so , I guess new cam bearings are in my future ! mtr. still runs grt. . no knocking or taping . top end and bottom sound grt. .no smoke , doesn't run hot . so the only other thing might be a new timing cover . had some good grooves on the sides , so that is at least part of the problem . no matter what it will need to be replaced , so I might try it first . probably optimistic . car does drive decent , very little rust , so its worth putting some work in to . no real rush though . still hoping to come across a 455 . used to be everywhere , but it seems like between the horders and the scrapers . getting hard to come by !!

Did you pack the pump with Vaseline and turn the distributor drive until you see oil in the rockers? I'd try that first, and then look at new cam bearings and probably rod and main bearings also. If your crank looks good and hasn't been ground already there are .oo1 undersize rod and main bearings available.

yes , did all that .oil pressure is still the same as before . 40+ when cold ,but less than 10 at idle when warm .might be a little higher now , but not much ! could be worn rods and mains , but I doubt it .mtr runs grt. no knocks .pings . but I will absolutely check them when I pull the mtr. to replace the cam bearings .

Does it get to 40 lbs at 2500 rpm? I had less than 10 at idle and was ok for a very long time I can't remember how high it would get but I bet it was not ever over 40 even at 5 grand. Might have got to 50 but I can't remember now but I dout it

Try using some 10-40 oil and that may help some at least for the moment. I ran my stock front cam bearing all the way until I broke the crank and that was after a whole bunch of runs down the 1/4 mile. I had over 140,000 miles by then.
I went to the track at least twice a month from 1989 to 1994 and it was the flooding Thermoquad carb that caused it.

I wouldn't worry too much about it if you are not racing any and just stomping on it now and again. Just change the oil after 3000 miles or 7000 miles with synthetic.

I was beating the crap out of this 350 before any one knew anything about the oil systems weakness and obviously it is not as bad as the 455.

im not in any rush .it will probably run me all it needs to just as it is . I have way to many toys so after the new wears off ,it wont see much use .I just don't want to ruin a good mtr. over a$100.oo dollar repair . but once I tear it apart , im committed come what may!i took out my 67 yesterday , changed the oil , and marveled at the oil pressure . 100k and idles at 40 psi . I guess the cam bearings in the 340s are better ,the pump is basically the same , right . was thinking it might be good to put the plate in it BEFORE a problem , but if it aint broke !! so I just decided to play with the a/c .did a 124 swap a couple of yrs. ago , but not right .guess I need a poa valve adjustment ,a horizontal condencer and a htr. core , at the least , to make it work right . but it trys to work as is .might put it off another yr.!!
