So, how common is the lifter tick on a cold 350 engine? I typically use 10w30 with a Wix filter. ticks for a moment, then subsides as oil pressure immediately builds.

Your lifters are just bleeding down, no harm done. It will continue to do that forever and still run forever.

Very common with that wix filter. I remember back in the day when someone suggested wix and pretty much all of us who used it went back to napa or fram. Its the filter iirc something to do with the anti- drain back valve.

Uuummmm.... the napa gold filter is a wix 51258, painted white.

Note that he Napa part number is 1258...

The Wix filter is used exclusively here, I would not even let a fram in the building.

It does have a check valve in it, and is the best overall canister filter on the market, in my opinion.

The OP has at least one lifter that has excessive body/plunger clearance, or has dirt in it... partially keeping the valving open. It very well may have nothing to do with the oiling system, he is not reporting "delayed oil pressure after startup" which was the symptom of oil filters without a check valve.

    Jw actually post now lol...smh
Tey a different brand then nappa/ wix and lets sew if it goes away. Cheaper then lifter issues. Hopefully that does the trick

I have used napa on my 350 for years, as Jim said wix and napa are the same filter. My engine always hat a lifter tap upon start up, after my rebuild the lifter tap is no longer present so I would suggest that new lifters would solve the issue.

Yeah I used to follow the crowd. Till the filter the crowd suggested had my engine tickin upon start up. I even remember starting my own Thread about years ago And seeing others with the same issue. Things have changed around here did I see using Wix has become a standard? That's interesting

Nobody in the right mind uses a Fram.

Wix, Napa, Baldwin, Fleetgaurd, purolator, are good ones just to name a few.

Use what ever you want. Fram just doesn't filter as good. It wont kill an engine. Check the link post above. Go back in time and find more post like it. Good luck to you OP in finding a cheap solution.

Whats up with the crowd here? Still wanting to debate on facts that are proven by post.

If a fram filter ever killed an engine that'd be a first and they would fly off store shelves. Sure they aren't the best, but killing engines... No sir. Smh. Not realistic the world would throw a fit. Lmao

They fall apart... When the cheap paper falls apart it goes into the oiling system and blocks the oil squirters... END OF ENGINE>>>

Dont give me that we are only talking about old motors that did not have up to date oiling systems...

I'm not giving you anything. We are talking about all engines. Do you have a post to show what you're talking about. Any pictures from this Fram? I don't care about Chevy. Or whatever Volkswagen engines. I also don't care to argue over one mishap from somebody who didn't change her oil. Also seeing how this thread is going I'm going to tap out. No sense in arguing over an oil filter. Good luck To You LP and finding your resolve. Note the thread that I attached above. That was in a time where we actually helped each other on this forum not argued over silly nonsense. It's a simple filter just swap it and see what happens. Good luck

DO your own research proving a Fram is worthy You NEED to get up to date ...One post does not mean they are worthy....

Well, on the subject of the matter, the lifters are in spec, and the clearances are where they should be. Good news is, the car only does this when cold. I have the idle at 1000 in P so that might be a factor

Just what oil are using... Hi detergent oil can and do leak out of the lifters... Mixing ZDDP in to standard hi DET oil dont mix ( oil & water)

Idle doesn't play a factor. Its the filter. Worth a shot at whatever filter you decide to choose. Not much involved in way of work. Hope you get your issue resolved as it will lead to issues in time if not.
