I picked up a 71 Skylark Convertible, overall not bad condition and pretty original, been sitting for a while. Looks like it might have the original single exhaust on it which needs replacing, as well as original spiral shocks that also need replacing.

Looking for opinions on dual exhaust / mufflers that won't break the bank yet give a nice sound, nothing too loud or droning. I realize this is always a personal preference issue, however this is no show car, just a decent driver, local exhaust guy is pushing Flo-masters.....

    What say you?

I installed the Walker/Dynomax 17749 mufflers on my ‘71 and really like them. There’s a thread on the forum where a good number of people suggested them.

I would say guessing from your post : good TA style down pipes off of the manifolds , 2-1/4" or 2-1/2" pipes back to walker turbo's with flow directors . cheaper than the flowmaster's and the tests on them are good , and not obnoxious sounding . but the welded SS mufflers are solid , I used the dynomax ultra flo welded on my truck , SS and sounds good . then if you want to go cheap a couple down spouts . if not then round up some good quality dual tailpipes .
it just depends what you want to invest .

Stock '70 SP with a crower level 3 cam, thicker .042 head gaskets. Stock manifolds, 2.5" TA downpipes, just two straight sections of 2.5" pipe, thrush mufflers, and tailpipes that exit GN style.
Yes, I know a g body is different than an A body, but I really like how it sounds. And yes, the pipes were pointed down in the video. 's fixed now.

Dynomax super turbo muffler. Decent tone at idle and with throttle.
Pipe kit, ta performance has downpipes for 350 manifold.

My 1976 Regal Sport Coupe with 1970 Hi-Comp 350-4bbl engine has Hooker Super Competition headers, balance tube, full-body-length 2.5" exhaust routed through Maganaflow mufflers.

Thanks for the responses guys, parts with labor to have a local shop do the install look to be about 1k, does that sound right?

Is that them bending pipes? Installing headers? Seems abit high. With the full systems available now you could do it in a driveway with hand tools except for the studs on the exhaust manifolds that may or may not break.

I have the Walker Super Turbos #17749 on my '68. Nice deep tone without being too loud. I think I paid between $60 & $70 a piece for them, about $400 for the 2 1/2" mandrel-bent exhaust system and $200 for my muffler guy to put it all on.

Also wanting 350 exhaust info...Have headers. From there I was thinking X pipe to mufflers(Walker 17749's) with TA tail pipes??

I kept the stock manifolds and went with magnaflows, they have a nice rumble and sound really nice when you get on it. I had a local shop do it for ~$450.
