It slid right in, I put the motor and trans in by myself! The mounts are like exactly the same, and were in the same position. I used the car's stock frame pads, and since the car's motor mounts were broken, I just used my 340 mounts. The engines are practically exact...the 6 just has 2 cylinders missing from the front. Here are some pictures. Anyway, I still have alot of work to do, I'm using my dual exhaust setup off of my 67 and am going to have to modify the crossmember (I know I can buy one, but this is a budget project and I can weld), figure out what fan to use and modify the shroud, install the floor shifter, etc... That first picture is how my friend bought the car stock, he ripped out the A/C, or I probably woulda tried to keep it.
little late to the party but:TU: certainly answered my question on what has to be done to put a 2 door nose on. my shortblock is in, same situation as yours, uses the same frame pads in the same spot as the v6 which is VERY convenient. waiting for my heads from the machine shop and looking for a flywheel so i can put my muncie in there. definitely keep this project updated:grin:
Currently the transmission is at the shop getting rebuilt. I'm keeping the stock th350c. I messed up the trans bolting it to the engine, but it needed rebuilt anyway. I pretty much finished up the interior, now all it needs is a new headliner. My interior consists of: A t-type steering wheel, Olds center console, gauge pod and sunpro gauges, and 83 Camaro bucket seats. Here are some new pictures. I have the floor shifter, but it was going to be quite difficult to hook it up correctly with the reverse lights working, so I just kept the column shift. I"ll probably make a plate for cup holders or something where the shifter should be. Once I sell my cavalier, I'm going to transfer the tags onto the regal, get the headliner and paint done, and sell it. MORE MONEY FOR THE 67!
Put the trans in myself!....and it runs and drives. I took it around the block, but it's running rough. I still need to set the points and timing. Now I need to get my air compressor hooked up for the bodywork, and decide on whether to wait and sell the cavalier for it's tags or get a new tag/classic tag...
got it running good and stood on it.... I couldn't believe it, my 67 doesn't even come close to that..., i guess it weighs too much or something.... gotta invest in a posi...:3gears:
That is impressive, and looks like a lot of fun! :TU: I wonder what this thing would do at the track??
Yeah, I'm very anxious to see as well. As soon as I get plates on it, it'll be down at Cecil Drag-o-way. Here's some food for thought. That motor, in my 4,000 lb. 67 ran a 16.3 with a 2.93 gear leaving it in drive and it wasn't "power timed".... This car is definitely lighter....not sure how much... I did ad the pertronix flamethrower and power timed the ignition and I will be shifting it manually. With my big block in the 67, I shaved half a second switching from leaving it in drive to shifting it myself, and shaved another half a second setting the timing correctly. I'm also trying to acquire a posi rear for regal, but the moron on Craigslist doesn't know what gear's in it.... Oh well, I'm excited either way. I'm saying High 14's is definitely possible... Oh yeah I do have some L60-15 street slicks I'm going to try to shoehorn under it......:Brow:
haven't been working on it much lately, been working on the other 2 cars and school/work. Here's a picture with the bodywork started and the TTA wheels on it. yeah i know it's 20 different colors and that that door needs some work haha. 2 months since my last post, still sitting in the garage...
lookin good so far. my project is on about the same schedule, i fianlly got the muncie in it, i need to take out the seats and carpet to cut the shifter hole. too much going on at once!
As for your posi, the HOT set up would of course be an 8.5 rearend out of a Grand National or 442. The next best thing, secure a posi carrier out of a '93 up F-body Camaro or Firebird(usually on Z's or Formula's...with disc rear brakes if its out of the car). They are 3.23 & 3.42 7 5/8. Get the posi carrier, ring & pinion and all the spacers and, the bearing races*. Now, the later 7 1/2 & 7 5/8 stuff will fit, as long as you change the pinion races and keep the spacers where they were(left to left, right to right). These rear ends have 28-spline axles, same as the 8.5 Grand National, add a set of $235 drag axles for the GN and you have a hell-for-stout unit. If that is too much, secure the ring & pinion, carrier and races(w/spacers kept in place) out of just about any S-series truck or van, most of them are 3.42, some 4 cylinder stick shift ones are 3.73. For me the 3.42's are good alll around ratio, not too steep for highway use, and still peppy, 3.73s really wake things up, especially if you had been used to the 2.92's or 2.73's, talk about dropping seconds on your E.T.'s! The later ones have the above mentioned 28-spline axles, just reuse your spider gears. I am sorry I do not know the year they(GM) went from the 26-spline axles to the 28-spline axles. If you retained the 350C transmission, don't forget to wire up the lock-up so you can reap the rewards in sort of an over-drive.
Just picked up a 7.5 373 posi rear off CL for the regal. Haven't swapped it in yet, gotta do the bodywork first. Spring break starts tonight, so hopefully i can thrash on it for a few days. I also have a lead on a GN rear for cheap....dunno if i'll get it or not, either to use or resell. And i got a SBC 350 with a blown headgasket, a rebuilt TH400, and 2 engine cradles for free 2 weeks ago! Gotta love CL Hopefully I can sell the cavy and put the plates on the regal...
Ok. I haven't been keeping you guys updated, like the turbobuick.com forum Alot's happened since my last post. Put the rear in, got it painted, inspected, got the headliner and visors done, got it tinted, brand new weatherstrippng, had my dad's torque thrusts on for a little, just finished installing an aluminum radiator and dual electric fans out of an LS1 F-body. It's coming together very nicely. Next mod will be either lower control arms or an electric fuel pump. I still have to recheck the timing (thought i had it perfect but it's pinging when it's hot/WOT) and am trying to get it to the track tomorrow night if it's nice out. I probably could use some better tires too. PICS!!!
Yeah, I'm seeing if i get any bites being that it's basically done (and i kinda want another project). Just got home from Cecil County Dragway.....best time was 14.9 @ 91 mph 2.17 short time. I was going in guessing/ hoping for a 14.9, and i was right. Not too bad for a stock motor and the stock trans.
Yeah i wanted to do a big block, and there is a '70 on craigslist for $400 with a trans, but the parts are a bit pricey....intake/headers/mounts/cam is like $1200....idk, i just build a big block for the 67 anyway...plus i can always swap something else in, not like a motor is permanent...
Good point when the cash starts flowing in then you can go to a BBB..You cant beat a SBC when your on a buget...
