Just about every car I get my thought is "daily Driver".
Then the temptation to modify kicks in and off I go.
My 67 GS California 340 has a Poston 110A cam and a Transmission Specialties TH 350 (low ratio gearset) but basically stock including the born with single exhaust and 2.78. It is probably the original pipes but with a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler 2.5 in/out. I kinda remember the early
Barracudas having a low restriction single system so I kinda kept that
idea for this 67. It really runs great and sounds perfect to me.

I should put some more miles on it this spring.

    Nice .
    I had a low miles 67 Skylark 300 . Went good .
I would say throw a basic 2-1/4 or 2-1/2 dual exhaust setup on there and get some 3:23 - 3:55 range rear gears out back . That should be a noticable difference .
Then when you get rich go nuts .

Del, it is about perfect now drive ability wise. My point is that the low gearset trans, high stall converter and 2.78:1 is a great combo. Could use a posi though!

Did you guys notice the sign on the building? One of my favorite pics of this car! Car show last summer in The Couv on Main Street. Behind where I was standing to take the picture is a nice little micro brewery. Something for everyone at that spot.

That extra gear with a better take off ratio really makes a difference on how much more fun the car is to drive, doesn't it?

If you went with a 200R4 you could of had overdrive as well, but you would of needed to change the rear gear to at least a 3.42:1. It would have an even better 1st gear multiplication ratio but would only gain .4886:1 less final drive ratio.(if using a 3.42:1 rear gear ratio)

If in you're having traction problems with the low ratio gear set TH350 then with around the same 1st gear and a 3.42:1 with a 200R4, then that looks like a good compromise. Those 340s have decent low end torque, I can see why you're having traction problems.

How much more was it for the low ratio gear set TH350 vs a regular one? I think you may be on to something?

Derek, the idea is from my dad- he has a 78 Malibu he bought new - he was an early adopter of the LS swap
in 2002/3 he mated a crate Z06 to a TH350 with a low gear set/high stall and kept the original 2.56:1 posi in the Malibu.
That thing is totally street friendly and will run 12.5. BTW it is a 4-door :)
I had my transmission in a 65 Skylark 4-door with a 350 I built and it was a blast as well. That got sold with the 300/ST300 back in it.

Hey Ted, what is the 1st gear ratio of your TH350? If I remember correctly isn't the 1st gear ratio for your trans is 2.74:1? Or do they make a taller 1st gear now?

From my CRS memory those low 1st gears for the TH350 were a bit pricey back in the day, I wonder if the price came down since then? Do you have a link the trans shop you bought your trans at?
