My '68 LeSabre came to me with a '66 340 that burned oil, so I'm swapping to a 350, piecing parts together from various sources, as some of you may have seen on my previous post: http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/350-dipstick-clearance-w-stock-exhaust.347750/

The short block and heads are '71. I bought a junk '73 complete engine to get the rest of the parts I need: intake, exhaust manifolds, rocker assemblies and pushrods (missing on my heads), misc. I plan to use the Quadrajet R4-4MV that came with the '73.

First question, did the '66 with the Carter C4-AFB use ported or manifold vacuum (plugged to the port on the front passenger side)? I'm hoping to use the known working distributor from the '66, plugged into the Quad on either ported or manifold (whatever it was on the Carter). Any issues with this?

Also, the '73 intake has lots of stuff on it that the '66 didn't, no surprise. Could you guys help me positively identify the items in this pic, and which ones I need to keep/which I can block off with my setup? I read various opinions about EGR- with a '73 intake and '71 heads, do I have the right passages to run it anyway? If I delete it, do I need to worry about the carb not being set up right for no EGR?

DEADMANSCURVE my first word : truck

my early 350-4 intake has 4 water passage ports on front of intake , 2 left , 2 right . one on the right is used for the heater hose - I don't see one on there ? I sold a mid 70's intake awhile ago but can't remember .
my 2 cents on the question :
#1 - plug or use for extra coolant sensor / temp gauge
#2 - probably not needed , ac low rpm adjust I think
#3 and #4 - air tube and egr , plug 'em . I made up about a 1/8" metal plate , drilled a couple holes and used an egr gasket on my SBM intake .
if you are going to be spending some time getting it together maybe worthwhile searching for an older 4bbl intake if that will work for your combo ?
