Can any one tell me if the original,53-55 V8 crankshaft pulleys were riveted to the balancer as their Gm cousins (Chev. & Pont.) of that era were ??? Thanks. Bill V. Pnx. Az.

    322 crank pulley

    Bill,

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. I checked one of the 322 motors in my garage and the pulley is a bolted to the crank hub/balancer. Are you having a difficult time getting the pulley off?:Do No:

No, not having any problems, just wondering about the correctness of parts for a numbers match resto nailhead. As I stated in my starting post, the first 265's in the 55-56 Chevys had their crank pulleys rivited to the dampener, ditto the early Pontiac V8s. Most of these were changed over to bolt on combo's latter in their lives ,but these are the things that really jump out at someone judging for originality. Another for instance was the early Chevy oil pan, it had the drain plug right dead center at the bottom of the sump. They never did that again. Would guess a lot of those early plugs got cleaned off by rocks and curbs. But its one wanted by anyone looking to do a high point motor. It's very possible Buick nailheads had some first and second year engineering oversights that were corrected in following years. Thanks again. Bill V.

Some early nailheads had cast pulleys instead of damper. May have been only 264 motors? the 55 and 56 322" motors have bolt on pulleys.
