    Hi Guys,

Has anyone used the 30-spline Eaton posi that is made for the '89 & up 10-bolt truck rearends in a '71-72 Buick 8.5"? I've currently got one in my '85 GN 8.5" rear and wasn't sure if it would also fit my '72 rearend with bolt-in axles.

    Thanks for all responses!:TU:

I think the older cars had 28 spline axles. Might just have to get 2 diff. spiders.

Thanks for the reply John...yes, the original stock spline count is 28. But I always upgrade to at least new Moser axles. My '85 GN 8.5" now has 30-spline axles as is my intention with my '72 rearend if the 30-spline Eaton will work in it.

Have ordered & built with quite a few of the Eaton 30 spline 8.5 posi's. They are a tough unit & can be made tougher if taking things to the extreme :pp

Will have to substitute different carrier bearings to use this carrier in an 8.5
rear that previously used 28 spline axles. Carrier bearings & races needed are: LM102949
    LM102910.

I have a 30 spline carrier from a Buick wagon from 1989. It is a 3 series carrier. Unit is tight, wagon only had 90k on it.

Do you have the 410408 3 series posi carrier? I would be interested in a trade.

    Let me know.

    Hi George,

Currently my Regal has the 30-spline Eaton in the '85 GN rearend that is under it. I recently purchased a 30-spline Detroit Locker to replace the Eaton, with the intention of transfering the Eaton over to a '72 8.5" that will go under my '70 GS 455 4-speed conv. and replace the Moser/Currie built 35-spline Detriot Locker'd 9". I will post the 9" for sale once I get that far though.

Is the 30-spline carrier you have from the '89 Buick wagon a posi? If so, my nephew is/would be in the market for it if it is and the price is right.:Brow:

I'm sorry George but I'm not familiar with that number...is it a stock 28-spline carrier than?:Do No: Either way, I don't have anything to trade, sorry.:)

The Eaton carrier, 8.5" I removed from the 89 wagon is a posi. It is a 3 series carrier. The 410408 I mentioned is the GM posi unit for 3 series gears for the 8.5" rear. Email me direct at GStage1@buickperformance.com

    George,
Hello. If the the '89 caprice 30 spline posi is an Eaton, & not an Auburn unit, can do a trade with you.

    George,

The later big car Eaton 8.5" you mention is not considered a "12-bolt corporate" with the similar 10-bolt cover? :Do No:

I have a useless posi "12-bolt coporate" from a mid-80's Park Avenue. Looks like an Eaton.

    Thanks for the help.

    Roger,
The unit I have is a factory unit, Eaton(I think Eaton uses 4 or 5 compression springs and Auburn only uses 3?). It is in exc condition.

Please email me direct at GStage1@buickperformance.com to go over the details. I will take digital pics tonight and send them to you direct once I have your email address. Thanks!

    Tom,
The unit you have is a 12 bolt from a full size. I think Roger can clarify what rears that will fit(B-body only I believe). You should be able to sell it.
