Looks like a nice system but there is no sense in welding it. You'll be kicking yourself if you ever have to pull the trans or tank. Clamps are more than adequate..

I concur! The band clamps I bought at Summit work great and come apart very easily for the frequent muffler changes I seem to make.

Or, spend the extra money and have it flanged in front of the mufflers so you can drop out the X if necessary. That is what I did. Unbolt at the headers and in front of the muffler, and the whole section drops out.

    Hi Larry,
They are already flanged at the muffler. I could weld the X and the collector/reducer. a combination of both clamps and welds might be the answer.

Not in the picture they aren’t. I mean weld a 3 bolt flange to pipe and muffler so it bolts together instead of the slip fit. Did you do that after you took the picture?

You can see the flanges in the picture I posted.

From experience exhaust sound from a car is very hard to catch on audio.
    It never sounds the same.

You could also weld in V-band clamps. I much prefer V-band clamps over 3 bolt flanges. Less likely to leak.

The point is you want to be able to drop the front section out in case you want to do transmission work. Slip fit with clamps can make that difficult if not impossible.

Oh, I see. double flanged so it slides straight down. Okay that's pretty slick.

Not to hijack the thread but is the sound very different when going from separate dual exhaust to x-pipe or h-pipe?

I used band clamps everywhere. Collector, reducers(3.5" to 3") into the x-pipe, and in/out of the mufflers. Never have to worry if I want to change something. Also added a little rise in the pipes in front of the mufflers to tuck them up a bit better.

TA shorty headers, 3 in TA down pipes, TA 3 inch mandrel bent system to the bumper with the magna flow or walkers i forget. TA complete system fits beautifully, includes all the hardware, I welded it in. On jackstand , rear end hanging, Tires off. If you disconnect it at the header you can drop the front , swing it to the outside and lift it out and over the rear drum no problem. All in one long piece, per side.
