I came across a 2X4 alum. intake while looking for 455 stuff today. And was wondering if there is any markings that would tell me if this is for a nail head. Did buick have a factory intake like this or is it after market. I know it is not for the big blocks this guy thinks it's off a nail head. I might be able to get it cheep since it has been in his shop for a long time and belongs to a freind that told him to sale it years ago. And it only has the front carb square bore (carter ?). Thermostat sits flat (not like a 350 buick). I wish I had more info to give. It's out in the sticks in the middle of Kansas. I do not see it running off sone so I will go back later for it if it's worth any thing. I thinks it's worth a few bucks. I know it's not pontiac, chevy, ford.

Anybody looking for a 2X4 intake let me know.

    Thanks for any help

    Vic,

It is not from a Nailhead if the thermostat fits into the manifold. The Nailhead thermostat fits in the water manifold that is between the heads and above the water pump.

Vic also when you put a Nailhead manifold on the floor the head to manifold surface will sit flat on the floor.

Olds doesnt have have the distributor mounted through the intake so there is one clue. if you look at the spot the thermostat drops in to there will be a hole on the front edge for the bypass, not just a round hole like a chev

1st off if there is a thermostat mounter in the intake it is definatly NOT for a nailhead, the nailhead does not have any coolant passages running through it, a quick way to id a nailhead intake is its flat:eek2: intake mounting surfaces and its use of a vally pan, so there will be no end seals, hope i helped:grin:

    Post a picture

    Vic,
I'm sure if you were to post a picture of it here then somebody would be able to recognize what it fits on.:TU:

    Aluminum Intake

I would be interested in the intake if it is for a 401 or 425. A 364 is not the same. The bolt hole are closer together on the intake. Please advise how much and could you measure between each bolt hole on each side of the manifold across the bottom. Let me know. Buickgnw:rolleyes:
