Well that certainly was not taken well. lol

I guess not everyone can understand a simple explanation. The invitation still remains, and the rules are at the top of this post. We would love to have you come out and compete with us, if you ever decide to get a set of manifolds.

    72STAGE1 STAGE 1 & 2

Its all good and I did understand, I was merely pointing out that most of these cars came from an era where we all wanted and installed Headers, so to go back cost a lot just to compete in a fun event at the GS National and should be amended for such a small difference so that participation would go up dramatically, because lets face it, its not the NHRA finals???

The point of my post was less an attempt to bring over people who are already racing cars that aren’t stock appearing (although the invite is wide open!) but rather to reach out to the people who own, drive, show and enjoy cars that do fit into BSA yet never race them. It’s a great class for both beginners and the experienced.
For the record, you’re allowed 2 1/2” exhaust, and several racers in the class are or have been racers of cars in the non BSA classes. Some have converted back to stock appearance, some have more than one car. Many have proven that a qjet, red painted intake, black plug wires, ported manifolds and 9” slicks aren’t the handicap one might think.

I do understand about the headers. At some time, those headers and exhausts need to be replaced, hint hint. Just as I did recently, at a cost more than I hoped. Imagine that. Nothing is cheap anymore. If it is, then it most likely ain't worth having. If and when you need to replace those headers, think about us and the fun it can be to make these beasts run fast in an original looking appearance.

Jim Rodgers and I were tuning my car at the track in Adel, GA one Saturday and the people were amazed. We had a couple guys come to our pits and was checking the SunCoupe out. They were amazed that I had manifolds. I removed my aircleaner and this statement was made... "look at that, he even has a quadrajet on there, it don't get any stocker than that!" We still have laughs at that moment. Come over and see us at the Nationals, we all do have a great time. I look forward to meeting you !

There are plenty of bracket classes to accommodate the average bolt on car and of course test and tune. The reason we have BSA, GSR and Super 16 is because those classes cater a to certain type of car making them an "attraction" if you will. And to also build the competitive spirit which drives guys to participate which in turn pushes our small piece of the hobby. BSA could be a 20 car field if guys would just come to the Nationals for one and two actually run their car. I think its mostly avoided due to fear of "messing" up and being competitive. Both of which are nothing to worry about, the pro tree bracket is the equalizer when it comes to a car's potential, tbe slowest car often times has an advantage matter of fact. "Learning" how is as simple as asking a few questions and hitting the test and tune lanes a few times. Then you have the "I dont risk breakage" fact is anything that is put together correctly and under 500hp the chance of breaking is pretty slim. Headers dont belong on 400hp setups anyway imo.

No such thing as to nice to race. Your car is in more danger on the way to the track than it is on it. Nothing safer than a strictly controlled environment when it comes to racing. Id do BSA but dont have the car to fit into the class....... yet.

I've run BSA many times and I can definitely say that it is a great race class with a very friendly group of guys. If someone has a Buick that is stock appearing I highly recommend that they join the fun. If their car has modifications that don't fit this class then I recommend that they still run their car in one of the other classes. Racing our old Buicks is fun so give it a try.

I'm in the early stages if gathering parts for another motor (as well as another Muncie) and would love to somehow categorize into this bracket.

Factory exhaust manifolds, stock, B4B or Performer intake, Qjet and some red engine paint! (A little more than that, but not much-check Jim’s original post).
    Patrick

Oh, and the paint and carb/intake may change if you’re running a nail or small block.

This may be a stupid question out of left field, but what about an aftermarket (i.e. pro6ten) ac compressor?

I think the only thing that would keep me from running is having to paint my B4B red. I just really wouldn't want to do it. Otherwise, I think my car fits the class. I ran in the bracket class last year.

BTW, what kind of times are being run? i.e. what range have been run last couple years?

edit...looks like I can't run this class because I can't fit a stock air cleaner on my car due to hood clearance(66 Skylark w/455). Have to run a drop base open element.

Wonder if you could red Plasti Dip the intake and just peel it off after the event?

I think others have run a black painted open air cleaners in the past.

That would be Jims call but I wouldn't have a problem with it.

So 3" exhaust, (definitely not stock sounding), aluminum intakes & heads painted red, adjustable upper bars, 10" wide rears, roll bars, electric fuel pumps, probably big cams, but no headers? Seems funny.
I ran H stock at Motor City decades ago and they allowed headers.....

How about if you race with headers and don't accept the winnings? Would that work?:)

If your running headers GSR is the class for you, Ethan does a great job organizing it....

Yep. Iron exhaust manifolds will always be a requirement for this class. If you have headers don’t let that stop you from enjoying one of the other race classes. There’s something there for every car. Bring it out, run it and have fun.

The BSA cars are running low 10's to high 17's the majority are running 12-14 second range. Come and enjoy the fun with this group of racers!
