A guy in my little hometown (3800 pop.) has a 2003 Viper Convertible. This is the one with the new body style and new motor. Only 2500 will be made. They are very hard to get and very expensive. I'm not sure what he paid, but I know it was not the sticker price. Probably around $100k. This thing is super sweet! Black with black top and black interior. According to him, these new ones have 505 hp with over 500lb.ft of torque. He says it will haul, and I believe him! His car will be in the DuPont registry magazine soon.

But this is not the coolest car he has. About a year ago, he sent his brand new ZO6 off to be modified. He should get the car back within the next 3 months. It is being modified to look and run like the C5-R 'vette racer. He knows one of the GM guys who heads up their racing division. He talked the guy out of a set of the 427 racing heads. They were $22k apiece. He has over $60k in the motor alone! And thousands more on new suspension, brakes, wheels..etc. this car will be painted yellow with the full ground effects as the C5-R. Should be between 700 and 800 hp when done. And this car will handle like no other. It will be a one of a kind street car when finished. I can't wait to see it. He already has a couple of magazines that have committed to have this car on it's cover when he gets it back.

Oh yeah, his daily driver is a brand new Hummer H2. Man, I wish I had that kind of money.

BTW, there's a Mopar nut here in Austin that just bought the same car...triple black '03 Viper..he has a 2001 or 2002 hardtop as well....the dealers must be telling these guys the same story..."you've got the only triple black Viper in TX!!"

Yeah, he told me the same thing!

He also told me the only way to get one of these cars was to have been issued a certificate from Dodge. Curent Viper owners have first shot at them.

I am about an hour north of the D/FW area. Out in the sticks. Very unusual to have a guy with these kinds of autos in my little town.

    new Viper

The new 2003 Viper engine is 505 cid, 505hp, and you guessed it 505 tq. The msrp is around 95,000 with no options avail.

If I had that guys kind of money I would put into a GS. Imagine if we spent 60k on our motors. Bet we would get mor than 700-800 hp out of them.

    Re: new Viper

I agree. But, this motor will be the 427 ci with the C5-R heads. He is wanting to make a C5-R, and that is what kind of hp they make. He could definitely make that motor with more hp also, but that is not his goal. It will be a street legal road racer when done.

You could make one heck of a Buick big block for $60k though!:beer

He's like a FedEx guy, he delivers small packages across the border:laugh:

Seriously, though a bit envious, I like to see guys with the dough do things I could only dream about.

He owns a business that sells weapons to law enforcement agencies. He sells H&K and Colt. I'm gonna see if he can hook me up with an MP5!
