One of my friends used to work for Carrillo rods and he thinks he could get them to make some for us. I am looking for a good used rod to give him.
Although we have good forged steel connecting rods, in our nailheads it seems in the overall picture structurally, they might be a weak point for extreme performance applications, (boost, fuel adders, etc). I can't say I have ever heard of anybody that has broke a rod. If someone has, I would be curious about the application in which it occured. I have a full set of good ones in my garage for my 401 that have the wrist pins/pistons pressed off of them. Erik
Thank you for posting the video clips.....they've just put a great big smile on my face that I am having trouble getting rid of. The Engine sounds fantastic!! Love it.
Glad you enjoyed the videos. More photos of the rail are @ http://community.webshots.com/user/hambone1958 (Last 5 shots are our rail)Thanks to Alan:TU: We will put up some more on our photobucket link soon:Comp:
We ran at SpeedWorld last Saturday and took off another .5 second off the et. We are still throwing way to much fuel at the engine. Although we are down to using only 2.5 gallons a pass:eek2: .I need to take off about .5 to 1 gallon more off that number. Saturday the trans kept shifting to 1st or just slipping a lot. The track was not to good for the lighter cars. I was ask why I was pulsating the throttle, only to discover what people were hearing was the highspeed bypass bouncing everytime the slicks broke free. We started to use the transbrake and the last run was a 3200 launch which made me face the right wall. I got off the fuel and back on quick and went right straight down the track. I have never driven any car on a track that can recover as quick as this one.(thankfully). I will be putting on the good heads, a new distributer, and leaning it out some more this week. I will also have to see what was going on with the trans/cable/fluid levelo No: . We will be at SpeedWorld again this Saturday at Craigs/mltdwn12 Buick get together. We hope some of you can make it to the event.
Good to hear your sneaking up on it John :TU: I have to start working on the GS some each night after work to swap rears. I lost the whole weekend due to this gout but feel better today. I plan at being at the gates before 7 Saturday to grab a good spot in the pits. Just a Sat Night Drags going on besides our little event so space shouuln't be at a premium. Going to try and set up right behind the stands at the end of the main pit area, opposite end from the bathrooms. Look for the red GS or maroon Ford crew cab, there will be a small PVHR banner on the truck.
wow your getting 10 gallons to the mile :TU: I'd love to see this thing in action. I love nostalgia type race cars and a nailhead powered one is even better.
At Bowling Green we were using over 3 gallons a pass. I will try to get some video this Saturday. I am looking at making a mount, to mount my little video camera to the rail. It looks like we found the problem with the trans. The cable mount on the trans was sliding just enough to let the trans go back to first . I will be making a new mount for the cable that will not move. It could have been a lot more serious, so I am not to worried about the fix. I will try to keep the board up to date with the progress.
Due to some health and family issues we have not had the time, funds or ambitition to go to Phoenix in the summer for testing. Health is getting better and the Kids are in school. Most of the bills are paid so now its time to get back to what is important:laugh: . Len Freeman from LasVegas put a trans together for the rail that feels great and has second gear. Along with the few minor linkage issues we had, the stator support bushing had spun in the pump. That's the main reason we had no second gear. No major damage so he just put in a new pump assembly and a few bushings. Thanks Len:TU: .......... Our tire sponsor has shipped out a new set of Hoosier Nostalgia top fuel tires to replace the 14 year old slicks we had been running on, and a set of new front runners. We are planning on running the car 9/12-9/13 in Phoenix to finish my advanced et license. We are also entered to run at Bakersfield, CA. for the California Hot rod Reunion in NE/1 = 7.60 index. I will post more as things happen.
Craig I am just going down to Speedworld on Saturday the 13 and if I can I will try to go to Firebird on Friday the 12. I need to finish my Advanced ET license. I can't due much until I have the new Hoosiers on the car. Hopefully it won't rain. I will let you know as things get closer.
Sounds good, I've been waiting for it to get below a 100 to go out and run the GS again. I got a new carb on it and hope to see if it will pull properly to 5800 instead of having to short shift it at 5000 r's. That Saturday might be a good time to head out.
Just do a search on this board and you can find "ALL Kinds Of Fun Things" :3gears: http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=154703
