Im in High school and you all may know their is always that kid that drives daddys car to school and thinks he is so fast. Well that kid has been trying to get me to race him all year, He talks a lot of crap. So yesterday I was driving home from school with open manifolds and I see daddys car pulling into a drive way. So I come to a stop and light the tires up in front of his house to give him a look at what power is. He quickly throws his dads car in reverse and starts following me through town. We get to the last traffic light in town, this road leads to the undeveloped land of dade city. The light is red and he pulls up next to me reving his little 302. The light turns green and we both put it to the floor, Smoke goes up and we are off. I got the light on him and im a good car length ahead when the vacuum secondaries open up and the open manifolds are screaming. I stayed in it till I hit 60, I looked in my rear view and he is a good 6 car lengths behind me. What a chump hahaha. He then did a ricer flyby, and today at school he says one of his belts were squeking so he did not floor it. Oh yeah I have a old coil so my engine is miss firing right know.

I hate to spoil your fun but my brother was killed in a street racing accident when he was 17. It only takes once and it happens so fast you'll never have a chance to change it. We all think we're going to live forever, especially at your age, but not all of us do. Not saying you're not a good driver but you are inexperienced. Just be careful..............

I lost my license for two years when I was your age for spontaneous road racing.. Well admitedly there were some prior, and outstanding issues at the time as well. Be careful.. Put some exhaust on the car too. You're just yelling "pull me"..

Congrats on your first kill. But do be careful out there and take it to the track if you need to race someone.

OH my God. I'm starting to sound like my father.

In the 60"s I had a 54 Buick with a stick 3 speed and 3.90 factory rear gear. I put a 56 4 barrel engine in it and that ole buick beat 90 % of anything on the road. I never refused a race. The car was a mystery. It beat every 390 Ford in the country, even the "4 speed, positrac, police interceptor" a car salesman sought me out to race. And of course he said we run 3 miles back to town. He did'nt know the nailhead ran 6000 rpm with ease. Ford lost 1/4 AND top end... Winning feels soooo good...and twice as good in a BUICK!!!
Those days, road drags were the most fun days of my life ever. By mid 70's our race strip was lined with houses and a guy coulden't get away with much of anything. Even our parking places to "make out with girls" were no longer private enough to chance... you know.
It is hard to find a safe place to race. Just use good judgment. I was lucky... I got no tickets, no wrecks, no babies.

I had a 71 Skylark 350 in high school, and I did plenty of street racing too, just like this. Won most, lost some, but also had some really, really scary moments....

Drag Times shows 8 tracks in FL, one has to be within a hundred miles from you....I'd advise to find that track and get some timeslips. E-mail me and I'll even cover your gate fee if your broke

From there, anyone who runs their mouth without paper has nothing to stand on. If they wanna run, they cant hide from the clocks.....insist on it. If you did it, so can they.

Guys your age who are really into cars are fairly rare these days: we cant afford to lose even one. And that includes the big mouth in the Mustang!

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thank you very much for your concern. Their is a track not to far from my house that I want to start racing at regularly. I love cars and I have never seen a drag strip, pretty sad huh. Thank you for offering to pay for my gate fee, I should be fine as I just got a job. so I can finally afford to start going to the track:) I realize street racing is very dumb and I need to take out my speed fever at the track lol. No more street racing for this buick man.

Not trying to be preachy, really. Just that alot more bad than good can come from running on the street. And the track takes all the grey area out of who is or isnt fastest. The best part is when you wipe out some guy with a tons of money into his car - they dont generally dont take it well, and cant seem to figure out that a Master Card and Summmit calalogue dont make you a racer.

Tune carefully, and a stock 350 Q-Jet car should get you into the high 14's no sweat - no gears, no slicks, no headers. All the tech info you need to know is right here on this site, it just takes time and effort.

The eye opener is the amount of people who can't get some really nice cars into the 14's, cars that should do it all day long. You'll see!

    Good luck and have fun!
