I recently converted over to the dark side and took on a totaled 87 GN with 37,000 original miles. I know there are some GN guys over here so for anyone interested, here is the progress thread on the turbobuick site: http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/threads/revival-of-the-37k-87-gn.418305/#post-3473873
Nice progress on the GN Louie! Glad the car is getting a new lease on life. It was a pleasure dealing with you:TU:
Thanks for the kind words, Eric. The feelings are mutual! Just got a call from our frame guy, the body goes toget straightened tomorrow at 9:30 AM! If it's back by the weekend (probably not), the motor and trans reinstall will begin.
Nice Project Louie. Looks like you guys do really nice work, look forward to seeing the progress. I was a freshman in High School in 87, I wanted one on those! The GN and GNX were bad ass! My dad had a Lesabre T Type which was a cool car too. How is the 70 GS coming along, last I remember you painted the fenders, haven't seen any updates lately. You have many projects. if they discover an automotive type of attention deficit disorder I think you may have it. In your case it would be called B.A.D.D. Buick Attention Deficit Disorder......... haha..... I'm just Jealous man.
Lol B.A.D.D is the perfect way to describe me. This one just called to me, and Eric worked with me to get the deal done. A major reason to get the GN done before winter is so we can focus on getting the body work done on the 70. Hopefully my 68 is sold so I can now buy quarters for it. How is yours coming along? Did the springs work out?
Seems like its coming along nicely. I think at the rate you're going, Thanksgiving is an attainable goal. :TU: Nice to see such a cool GN brought back to life, and so quickly at that!
Louie, That is a great looking project. It is nice to see them brought back and not stripped & scrapped. Thanks for bringing the story over to the boards. I see you are not to far from me.
I use use to get frustrated with my 70s slow resto time, as I got older I realized it's not a race. I'm glad this one is coming together nicely. We got it back from the body shop last week and wow the frame guy did an outstanding job! Everything lines up like it did in 1987! Next up is the motor install this weekend. Thanks for the kind words, now get back to that 70 of yours ! thanks for the kind words! I am not familiar with your area, but my mother and sister are...for obvious reasons. I was close to going to West Chester, it's beautiful down there.
Exactly. Its all a process. That's like my dad and I are 6 years into the Olds we're restoring and its Spring or bust! Finishing up the motor now, which we kind of went a little over budget on. Ok, quite a bit over budget, but its going to fly now! :Brow: Anyway though, you know how it is with college work. No time for the fun stuff, but I have a 4 week winter break, so hopefully I'll make some good progress.
Enjoy! This was the FIRST start since 2002. Fired right up! Exhaust is only partially there so take that into account. We also installed the original right front fender tonight, it's coming along nicely. http://youtu.be/Je0ZHCNXmg0
Hey Dustin, sorry I just saw this now. The '68 sold and went to Germany! I just sold the GN's donor shell Sunday. Pretty soon I will have some space around here lol. Update: the 37K car moved under it's own power last night for the first time since at least 2002. Video is uploading to YouTube now. We moved it over to our other lift to install the exhaust. The checklist of things to do is starting to get smaller. Saturday I installed the radiator, AC condenser, intercooler, AC lines, power steering pump, and the MAF-air filter. Last night we got the exhaust on, bled the brakes, and installed the stupid splash pan that got bent in storage. Video coming soon, the car is really starting to take shape. Hoping to get it painted before I go back to school in January.

Nice car, you'll love it when it's done. Those things are beasts. But you used another GN as a donor??? For shame, you should have used a regular Regal. Only a couple of things are unique to the GN like the hood and grill. The rest should be the same.
Yes I used another GN as a donor for a few reasons. 1) It was for sale close to me, at a cheap price 2) it did not have a motor or trans, somebody was in the process of making it a BBC drag car 3) hood and grille are not the only thing specific. Turbo cars had a different driver inner fender, which are expensive and hard to find. This car had a good one. 4) it was cheap and close to me, again. 5) GN's are not hard to come by. They made a lot of them. Once one loses it's drivetrain it essentially is a regal. I sacrificed one to save another, seems like a good trade off to me. You can't save them all. Here she is sitting after a rain bath. Had to put the old hood on to cover the motor.
