OK, this may have been posted but I will put it up. I was attending the GS nationals in May 1983. I had just gotten dropped off from cruising with Robert and Vicky Hall in his 70 Stage 1. I am just hanging around the Holiday Inn parking lot. When this 69 Chevelle rolls up. the drivers buddy gets out and states that we want to race a 350 GS. Yeah their were some at the meet but most where still out cruising. So no go. Buddy goes back to the driver, OK we'll run a 400. few attending but the one that was their didn't want to run. So again the buddy talks to the driver, minute or two later. The buddy says, OK we'll run a 455. So John Chamberlain says I'll run him.
All the time I am just watching from the side lines. Mr Chevelle wouldn't open his hood for love nor money so no idea what he is running. by the looks it is a factory SB car with a BB dropped in it. the way the front looked.
I follow with the crowd towards John's 70 Red Stage 1. ( don't remember if it was the show car or not) As everyone was piling in the cars. John asks me, " What to go? Pile in." I hop in the back seat. We follow Mr Chevelle and a couple others to some back country road. We get there pile out. Mr Chevelle does open his trunk to show he doesn't have the bottle. still won't open the hood. never did.
So he and John line up. Of course when it is all said and done. John walks this guy bad. We all head back to the hotel.
Next afternoon, I am heading back to the hotel from Beech Bend. I am driving my 77 V6 powered 70 Stage 1 car. Of course can't tell. I drive past a gas station where Mr Chevelle is talking with some buddys. The look he gave my car was just absolutely priceless.
