How hard is it to put an axle out of a 96 Impala in my car?

I don’t think it’s worth the hassle. I would just work with the rear end you have. You would need to cut off the suspension mounting brackets and weld on new ones. If you do this pay great attention to detail to re establish the suspension geometry and pinion angle. I would hire a pro fabricator if I went that route.

There is no aftermarket support for the station wagon axle is why I ask.

Which axle is it? The Pontiac 8.875 12 bolt?

I’m pretty sure it’s just a 10 bolt like my 75 Regal sedan has. Post a pic of the cover?

Not if it's a full size wagon...They use a 9 3/8" with leaf spring perches instead of coil springs.

Brad beat me to it. It could be one of a number of axles. Bottom line, Jon if you don't know what you have post a picture and we can figure it out.

We don’t even know what wagon it is? I was assuming it was a century wagon.

They are two different widths...truck is 62.7" and the wagon is 63.5".

thats less than a inch should work still. only loosing .4 inch on each side. idk if the shock mounts line up but still would be a good starting point for something you can find parts for.
