I'm sure once I get the answer I'll feel like an idiot, but I can't find the knobs to reset the trip odometer and speed minder on my '74 LeSabre.

At the top left corner of the instrument panel. Should be two dummy switches(unless you have convertible, then its next to switch the drops top.)

That picture is not a '74 dash. 75/76? Anyway I stripped a '74 lesabre with a trip odometer and there was a knob you pulled on the bottom of the dash. You pulled it straight down to reset the trip odometer. The trip odometer display was located directly underneath the odometer.

This is correct for '74: knob is under dash, right of center, left of the radio volume knob.

You don't have speed minder and/or trip reset?

I ask because I'm pretty sure your Electra is higher spec or a tad newer than mine and I had both on my '72. Having replaced the instruments I have all the bits you might need if you were interested.

    Cheers
    Bob

Hey Jon! Sorry for the thread hijack but it's kind of related :)

MM - I detailed the gauges upgrade in this thread http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?th...update-purists-look-away.332293/#post-2795467

The two knobs controlling the trip reset and speed minder live in the spot circled in red in the image below. I replaced them with a new insert with the gauge dimmer control. Reminds me I need to find a more discreet knob than the monster they supply :)

Bob that switch doesn’t look too big or out of place to me. Looks like a cigarette lighter or a remote mirror knob. Looks pretty good to me! :)
Besides, it’s not like you can hide the fact that you upgraded the gauges.
    They look sweeet!!

Those gauges are nice! I don't think the knob looks out of place, either.

I found the knob for the speed minder under the dash.

That's weird, it should be more or less in that picture. You do have the trip odometer just below the regular odometer, right? Maybe it went missing somewhere in the car's life?

Yes, have the trip odo right underneath the regular odo.

BTW what is a speed minder? Is it that thing that makes a noise if you go past a set speed?

The Speed Minder is a PITA and the first thing I disconnected, I had it on the Electra. Now I've installed Cruise Control which used the same Speedo head.
