    My car is a 1974 Buick Riviera GS Stage 1 numbers matching and build sheet broken down. This car is super rare due to it's options. It has the "Air Cushion Restraint System" which are factory air bags just like in today's cars. She is one of 329 cars to get the airbags. She also had Max-Trac installed in her which is a traction control system. She is one of 5 cars to get the traction control. She has much provenance behind her plus interesting history. This car will be 120% when she is done. She was built on 2/26/74 but was not sold and registered for the first time until 7/8/76 making her the last new 74 car of any type to be sold. She also has electronic ignition as did all 73 & 74 Stage 1 motors. I bought last year a brand new electronic distributor 41 years old has never been used yet. I stole it for $150.00 what a deal. This will be a great car when done.

    Talk to you again,

    John

    Thanks for all the good information guys. Its intrigued me now since I have a 1974 Riv 455 in my back garage sitting there. Bought it like 8 years ago and the kid called it a 74 Riv GS stage 1 motor he pulled out of the car to put his chebby in for a smash up derby car. I never questioned it as I figured it was just a 455 not knowing stage 1's existed in 1974. i do remember seeing the black Riv and it having GS badges on it.

    Just picked up a 74 riv stage 1 engine. Dist numbers are, 1112520 3L23, thought I saw a listing stage 1 then could have this number, or a 1112521, is this correct.

    111520 = 455 HP engine with HEI

    111521 = Stage 1 455 with HEI

    The 74 Riv engine is not a stage 1 engine notwithstanding the emblem on the car. Yours is an HP 455 optioned for non A body cars.

    My first Buick was a Burnished Copper 1974 Riviera GS Stage 1...1 of 1,698 built..455, TH-400, 9 3/8" rear axle 3.23 gears. I HAD the TH-400 rebuilt w a Street/Strip w a shift kit. Man, that car (4500 lbs.) was a true sleeper.It's long gone, not forgotten.

    I bought the 74 GS Stage 1 from Tom in Ohio recently. Red, Wht Padded Landau Top with
    Red Cloth Buckets and console. It's 23000 miles, 95% original paint etc. A lot of options:
    P Seat(s) PW, DL, Tilt & Cruise, A/C, AM-FM St/8Track, P Ant, Rear Defogg, Trunk Re,
    Chrome Plated Wheels, etc. I'm in the middle of detailing it, and will post pictures when she's done.
