today i finished epoxy priming the car, having trouble alligining the passanger door, and still need to put the hood on. i sprayed one layer of polyprimer today with a 1.9mm tip and it came out good, nice and high build i will post pictures of my progress soon
sorry i havent posted lately, ive been busy working on my car i have now layed 3 coats of polyprimer on the buick, tomorrow im going to sand with 220, 320, 400 with guide coat i still have some repairs to do arround the front and rear windows, hopefully i can finish those soon here are some pictures with the new high build primer
Hi alex, fantastic job you are doing to the buick....You must have a ton of hours into it so far. You must really know what you are doing and have alot of patience when it comes to body work (unlike me). great job so far! I'll be following this thread to monitor your progress. Mine needs a new paint job too. How would you like to tackle a 67 ?
lol, one thing about bodywork is that it seems that it never ends, if you werent so far away i would help ya out with your 67 (which hapens to be my favorate year buick) , yes i got alot of hours in the body, lost count...well actully never started counting but i think/hope all this work will be worth it. Updates- today i epoxy and polyprimed the hood, tomorrow im gonna put it back on the buick, block sanding has begun on the rear of the car, the trunk was blocked using 220 dry with a guidecoat and i think im going to start using 180 on the medium-long dura-block because the polyprimer goes on rough, but has more than ennough "fill" to be able to block with 180. after blocking with 180 i plan to block with 400, then spray 2 light coats approx 1 1/2 quarts of an reduced acrylic urethaine 2k primer and block with 600 ---will post some more pictures soon----
nice job Alex!! You are definitely progressing well on this! Where did you learn about the painting and bodywork?
i never really learned, this is my first attempt at this stuff. no one in my family is "really" into old cars, i have read alot about paint and bodywork online, and kept asking questions at the paint store. i have found that i realy enjoy doing this, its fun (well when your not frustrated  ) and definatly rewarding. i have a few updates and i will post them soon. you can also check out my website, its preaty up to date, but has alot of pictures so it may take a while to load if you dont have dsl http://my72skylark.bravehost.com
Wow! I am impressed. I have pretty much followed the same method as you - looked on this site, online, asked the auto supply store etc. I too have found this very rewarding. I am envious that you are 25 years younger and having this much fun! Our project will likely slow a bit - money and I went back to work today. I hope we can replace the floorboards and get the body back on before fall. Good luck with yours. It will be interesting to see these two '72s develop!
tomorrow a friend is going to come over to help me weld in a replacement rear window channel, because my was rusted out from the vinyl top
Alex, you rock brother! My first Buick was bought from a good friend in was I was 15 (1989), and it was none other than a 1972 Seamist green 2 dr Skylark 350-2 with green interior and and green top. It was EXTREMELY rusted out, and basicly junk, but I learned about engines that year by messing with the Skylark. It was towed away in 1990 to the junk yard :ball: , but replaced with the 1970 Skylark that I still own. It needs what you are doing to your car right now. I applaud you for tackling a large project like that. You got balls kid, you got balls. :TU:
well my friends and i got the rusty window channel cut out and the new one in, alot of work ahhh, but worth it, were not done, i need to trim the new metal down so it fits better, i will try to get some pictures up by tomorrow.
