1972 Buick Skylark Custom Convertible FOR SALE Wouldnt you really rather have a Buick? Are you tired of going to a car cruise/show/race and seeing a sea of belly-button Camaros and Mustangs? Now is your opportunity to buck that trend and rumble up in something just a little different. Those in the know will nod your way with recognition that the mighty Buick 455 was one of the fastest muscle cars of the era. While this is not a GS, it sure performs like one (or even better). For sale is a 1972 Buick Skylark Custom convertible. Long gone is the weak-suck 350ci engine/TH350 trans/10 bolt peg leg rear combination in favor of a healthy SF code Buick 455ci engine, a built th400 trans (converted to Buicks legendary switch-pitch) and a GM 12 bolt positraction rear with 3.73 gears. This car offers the best of both worlds in that its different (it is a BUICK after all), but it is also a member of GMs A body family, so most parts are readily available and relatively inexpensive. Detailed specs are below. I am asking $17,000 firm for the car as you see it (no trades please). If you are interested, please keep reading. The GOOD: SF code 1970 Buick big block (455ci). Car had not been meaningfully driven for eight (8) years before I finally took it to local performance shop as I could not land on the elusive combination of timing and carb set up. They welded in bungs into the collectors and tuned the car to run really well with the new distributor/carb utilizing A/F meter and o2 sensors. I had a great 2016 car show/cruise season with it. Now I am ready to move on. The BAD: Car was repainted in 2001 (Ford Bright Amber Metallic) but apparently some poor prep work on the quarters has surfaced after a few years as a rash on the quarters. (worst is on the drivers side) Front floor pans were replaced by previous owner, but they were riveted in rather than welded. Floors are solid but not fixed as they should have been. There are a few small rust bubbles in the bottom of the quarter on the passenger side. Car needs a new convertible top installed. It has the typical A body tears. A new top is coming with the car (minus the rear curtain/glass window). Top frame is in good shape and operates as it should. The UGLY: Who am I kidding? There is nothing ugly about this car. It gets compliments everywhere I go. A trip to the gas station is a 20 minute ordeal because everyone comes over to talk to you. Cars next to you at stoplights will roll down their windows to hear that sweet Buick big block mechanical symphony, and that is before you open the exhaust cut outs with a press of a button to sound like a NASCAR stocker. It scares children and makes Prius drivers cry. Women will want you and men will want to be you but everyone smiles! The bottom line; I am not going to BS you, this is not a show winning car, but it is a good looking, good performing pseudo muscle car. I built it to my taste; I am just hoping to find someone with a similar taste looking for a fun car. I am only selling this car as I am playing with the idea of getting a different toy; so therefore my price is firm. I will hold onto the car if need be and still be a happy guy.
