Hi everyone new to the forum and to Buicks just bought a 1971 skylark been searching for years for the rite car and as soon as I stopped my buddy buys one to flip and I fell for it, funny how things workout. The body is solid but it's running rough backfiring real bad and bogging out when you hit the gas I'm rebuilding carb now any other suggestions? Thanks
A baseline tuneup is a good place to start. Check cap rotor wires plugs air filter Check and tune your timing. Get a vacuum reading at idle in neutral.
Maybe this thread helps with the timing: http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/power-timing-your-buick-v8.63475/
So I put new carb on, changed plugs and oil and checked timing, still no better so we found that timing chain has a lot of play in it so that's the next step replace timing chain
Welcome to the board ,I'm new also and it took about ten minutes to become addicted ,what color is that paint called?
