The information that has been posted here is for EDUCATIONAL purposes. As been said countless times before, this forum is held to a higher standard than most. One reason is the membership is more than willing to help and share information with anyone who is willing to accept it. As such, it is a concerted effort to educate potential, new and experienced owners on these vehicles on what to look for when deciding to purchase a Buick. I have tried to read everything on this car past and present because I love rare cars, but for the life of me I can't understand when first, the car is being questioned on its being an authentic 71 GSX 350 4-speed, that when it gets restored the car then starts to be represented as a 71 GSX 455 Stage 1 4- speed car? If you look at the Story-board that's in the pictures and the auction description, things are eluded to and also omitted to that effect, making the whole car from beginning to end a bigger Q than it should have been and that is reflected in the price. Am I wrong ????????

I was just really commenting on the questionable pedigree of the car, which is what I thought this blog was about. I was asking if I was thinking about this all wrong and maybe I missed something, but I find the possibility of being real somewhat more muddied after the restoration and re-sale attempts because or the way it is represented now with the omission of the original thoughts of it being a GSX 350 4-speed car.
Several of us have been in communication with the seller, and I believe that as of this morning, he know believes the car started out as a GSX 350 4 speed car. He says it was not represented to him as such when he bought it. Still looks like a nice car, that now has a non original Stage 1 engine and 3.42 rear. Probably would be a heck of a lot of fun to drive.
Does anyone know what he wants for the car? He wouldn't give me a price and just said he would end the auction early if someone offered him the right amount.
I would kill to know the rim and tire measurements if anyone knows them. The rims look way deeper than stock and the tires look wide. On that note what is up with the description saying those cooper cobras are g60 polyglas tires?? ou:
I know for fact that there is a 71 Stratomist blue 71 GSX that has a 455 in it that never came in that car. The original drivetrain was replaced with big block items and sold that way..I should know..I have the original motor and I think I may still have the numbers matching TH350.I would love to see them reunited and that's the ONLY reason I kept the stuff..
While I am not commenting on this car I had a friend with a similar non stage1 GSX. With a much lower body number and later build date. All original sheet metal, original GSX spoiler as per Duane. History back into the 70's documented only in old pictures. No paperwork. No one would put a definite tag on it as a GSX. Probably is or could be even a few most likely is. But without that paperwork its a moot point it cannot bring the money to a savvy investor. With all the discussions on this and other boards people stay away from 71 GSx without paperwork and price them as GS and according to what I've seen as a GS 350. My buddy sold his for half the restoration costs because he was in a bind. IIRC the body was like 600 or close. Now that would be a blast to own and drive
From what I have read in this thread it sounds like the car is not an original 455 Stage 1 GSX and the seller knows it. If this is correct, I think the ebay ad is very misleading...
the auction is a private bidder listing which means bidders with 0 or less than 3 positive feedbacks and have no intentions of buying the car keep bidding against true prospective buyers thus raising the antie falsely and nobody but the seller knows??? a nice feature to use as a seller
Hello,buick community. My name is pete,owner of the 71x in question. I hope I haven't ruffled any feathers. Please let me take this opportunity to clear up questions you all my have. Starting at the beginning this x was once owned by b. Bayliss. Presented to me as a probable stage car with numbers match trans.no motor came with the car but located a period correct 455 stage and rebuilt it. At the time was not aware of the frame number, but cjp69,chris , a big help, enlightened me , I can read 2388 on the frame. Ok, this car was probably born with 350. Me bad for not knowing that. But the car presents itself well as being an x. If anyone can help me prove that please , please help. The entire car underwent a very detailed resto, no cost spared. She is beautiful inside ant out,with very very few flaws. No one I think can dispute that. Please feel free to ask me any ?s you like, ide be happy to answer them . ps. The wheels r 8" and I put polyglas tires on it. I do still have the coopers. I would enjoy an imput, thank you. Enough said for now.
Pete, Since the eBay auction is now over and you have since learned it was originally a 350 car, what are you asking for the car?
I personally love the car, even though I am somewhat of a purest, this car would put a smile on my face a mile wide if it were in my garage. I congratulate you on clearing the air and standing tall with your comments here, I think representing the car well will translate into a good sale where everyone wins.
