I believe that is Tom selling the car he bought at BG.

Yes, looks like Loyd Luthers old car.

He bought the car for $30,000. Wonder what profit can be made in less than seven months. Wait and see.

Shouldn't it have an 8.5" rear? Looks like and 8.2".

He should have had a friend review his ad before posting. Pretty thin on the description and not enough pictures. I can't believe that he bought a numbers GSX for $30K. I imagine he will make a nice return on his short-term investment. Although on the flipside the market is positively soft right now and I imagine getting worse with the Dow down so much.

    Nice looking Buick!
I had a quick question after looking at the pics as I am still doing odds and ends on my GSX tribute car. Are the headlamp bezels entirely painted the body color? I thought that perhaps the edge under the chrome hood lip would be left chrome but it looks like the entire piece is the body color. I have to get mine beadblasted and will then paint them over the winter and just wanted to know about the "correct" appearance.

Chris the bottom is the body paint color too.

Uhhh, NO. The vertical edge coming down from the chrome hood edge, STAYS CHROME. The back of the headlight bezel I've seen anywhere from just a dusting of body color to completely painted body color. The edge of the headlight bezel facing in towards the grille also remains chrome.

1971's were different than 1970's :Smarty:

So I guess someone along the way repainted the headlight bezels in the 71 GSX on ebay?

Sorry Chris. I see what your questions was now. When you said edge under the chrome lip I thought you meant the curved horizontal section at the bottom that fits behind the chromed front bumper. I have seen some NOS GSX bexels and I believe that part comes from the factory in primer. So I thought the factory intended it to be the body color. Thus my response that it is body color along the bottom. After seeing Brad's response and looking at the pics of Tom's car I see you were asking about something entirely different.

That's okay Jim. I do appreciate all your input on my questions - this board is fantastic for learning more about my Buick!

Ryans-GSX Have fun, life is short.

I have talked to tom many times about this car and I dont think he is selling this car to make a profit.(though he would not complain about making money...how would) He has put some money in the car (I cant remember what all he has done) the car is nice but I think he likes his big block cars better....IE: 70 QQ GSX, 70 GS455 Vert. he has many cars. Tom is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. When I bought my GSX I could not find a 70 GS hoodbar (GS only part) when I was at a chaper meeting I asked if someone had one for sale Tom spoke right up and said he had one in the back room (we where at his shop) told me $20 for it (Very nice piece!!) I said they are worth a lot more than that to him and said I would pay him more as this part is really hard to find. His responce to me was "dont worry about it as a matter of fact you can just have it" :Dou: WOW...you dont find people like this around very offten later that year he needed a part from me for a GSX he had and I sent it to him after he recieved it he called and said it was GREAT and asked what he owed me. I smiled and said the same thing I owe you for the part you so nicely helped me with earlier in the year. Tom is a stand up guy and I hope he makes a TON of money on the car. If anyone needs more pictures I can ask a friend of mine that is a photographer to take some if someone here is serious about buying it.

PS:Tom has won many awards at the GS Nats over the years. This is not some dealer trying to make a fast buck on a car. Tom loves buicks if someone wants the car they should call him and talk with him. I think many here would be impressed with such a knowledgeable and Friendly person.

I owned a legit fully optioned 72 GSX 350 one of the 44 cars built from 1988 to 1998.The car was completely original untouched car even took it to the GS Nationals in 1996 and showed it in 71-72 GSX class and it was a never ending parade of "Buick did not build GSX's in 72" or " a 350 where is the 455?"
    Owning that car was depressing!
Everyone including hardcore Buick guys rolled their eyes even though I had concrete GM of Canada Documention hanging in window and car even had WA5 ( Option code for GSX oranamentation package in 71-72) assembly line inscribed in marker above heater box underneath hood.
I am sure he is experiencing the same thing!
I got so tired of explaining the car, I just sold it when I aquired my 70 GSX.
    Car was very unique

I would love a 71 GSX. Unlike most everyone in the world, I like the 71 cars the best out of 70-72. I almost traded my 70 Ragtop basketcase for an X but in the end the guy couldn't come up with the documentation he said he had, which is a big deal on the 71 cars.

Nice color too, though I would like Lime Mist....

    Chris,

I took a few pics of my original headlight bezels from my 71 Platinum Mist GSX.

Brad was correct - the inside vertical face and lip are chrome. The backside of the bezels are mostly chrome., but do have a little over spray on the tops. These are obviously un-restored, and will show you how they were painted when they left the factory.
